House Passes Mandatory National Service Bill.
Legislation intensifies fears about Obama’s civilian national security force
The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” intensify.
The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.
Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”
Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”
“The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175,000 “new service opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation,” reports Fox News.
The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act,” which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.
OK, this really pisses me off and tells you exactly his mindset. He hates the military, plain and simple. Sure I will volunteer to go defend this country and then pay for my own injuries, why not, should I pay for my own burial too?

Obama mulls making vets foot bill for service injuries .
WASHINGTON – WASHINGTON—The Obama administration is considering making veterans use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-related injuries. The plan would be an about-face on what veterans believe is a long-standing pledge to pay for health care costs that result from their military service.
But in a White House meeting Monday, veterans groups apparently failed to persuade President Obama to take the plan off the table.
“Veterans of all generations agree that this proposal is bad for the country and bad for veterans,” said Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. “If the president and the OMB [Office of Management and Budget] want to cut costs, they can start at AIG, not the VA.”
Under current policy, veterans are responsible for health care costs that are unrelated to their military service. Exceptions in some cases can be made for veterans who do not have private insurance or are 100 percent disabled.
The president spoke Monday at the Department of Veterans Affairs to commemorate its 20th anniversary and said he hopes to increase funding by $25 billion over the next five years. But he said nothing about the plan to bill private insurers for service-related medical care.
Few details about the plan have been available, and a VA spokesman did not provide additional information. But the reaction on Capitol Hill to the idea has been swift and harsh.
“Dead on arrival” is how Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington described the idea.
My concerns are many with this Bill.
What gives the Government the right to require individuals to give 3 years service under the guise of “volunteer” service? It is not explicit exactly who is required but I think they get the Bill passed and then iron out the details.
It talks about uniforms and “camps.” They revise the word “camps” and call it “campus.” There is language about Seniors and Community organizations.
Some language in the Bill is particularly disturbing like:
- “leverage Federal investments to increase State, local, business, and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges;
- encourage national service efforts to address pressing national challenges, such as improving education for low-income students, increasing energy conservation, and improving the health, well-being, and economic opportunities of the neediest individuals in the Nation;
-expand and strengthen service-learning programs through year-round opportunities, including during the summer months, to improve the education of children and youth and to maximize the benefits of national and community service, in order to renew the ethic of civic responsibility and the spirit of community to children and youth throughout the United States;
- increase service opportunities for our Nation’s retiring professionals
-encourage members of the Baby Boom generation to partake in service opportunities
- Civilian Community Corps shall be called the “National Civilian Community Corps”
-the Director determines appropriate “Uniforms”
Why does the Government have to create Laws to make people Volunteer? The Government should NOT legislate Volunteerism.
-How much money will this National program cost?
-Take note of the Miscellaneous Section (Title VI) of the Bill. Very Strange!!!
-Sec. 601. Amtrak waste disposal. -Sec. 602. Exchange program with countries in transition from totalitarianism to Democracy.

Sponsored by Democrat Representative Carolyn McCarthy (NY), Education and Labor Committee. The objective is to reauthorize and reform the national service laws.
Democrat Rep. McCarthy is sponsoring the bill with 25 co-sponsors, ALL Democrats, including Charlie Rangel. Need I say more.

But on Wednesday, Obama slipped into Dick Cheney’s old “undisclosed location” and signed the $410 billion, 9,000-earmark pork-u-lust bill. In just 50 days, Obama and the Democratic Congress have spent $1.2 trillion, which works out to $1 billion in new spending an hour, 24 hours a day.
Spending lots of money we don’t have on programs that don’t work is the oldest of old news. Obama’s only “change” is spend faster, while shamelessly denying he’s doing it at all (“There are no earmarks in the stimulus bill.”)
This has become the MO of BHO – do anything you want and call it “change.”

I completely agree with what is said in this video clip. Why haven’t we learned our lesson, remember our history and realize this bailout and the one that preceded this one is not the right medicine. Leave the economy alone, it will rebound on it’s own. Of course the liberals socialists in charge will not so we are screwed for years to come.
Peter Schiff Stimulus Bill Will Lead to “Unmitigated Disaster”: Tech Ticker, Yahoo! Finance.
The fiscal stimulus bill being debated in Congress not only won't help the economy, it will make the recession much worse, says Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital.
Schiff scoffs at the notion the economic decline is starting to level off and concedes no government action means a “terrible” recession. But the path of increased government intervention will lead to “unmitigated disaster,” says Schiff, who gained notoriety in 2007-08 for his prescient calls on the housing bubble and U.S. stocks.
The problem, he says, is the government is trying to perpetuate a “phony economy” based on borrowing and spending. With the U.S. consumer tapped out, the government is “now taking on the mantle” of consumer of last resort, he continues, predicting the bond bubble will soon burst – if it hasn't already – ultimately leading to a collapse of the dollar and an “inflationary depression worse than anything any of us have ever seen.”
If nothing else, Schiff is an nonpartisan critic of American policymakers, comparing President Bush to Herbert Hoover and President Obama to FDR, and neither in a favorable way.

This all started under Clinton, continued through the Bush years and now has blossomed like a field of poison ivy under the beginning of the 0bama reign. Not even a month old, yet just today they voted on this supposed stimulus plan that is nothing but the full attack and take over of the economy, the banking system and the growth of the welfare state, never mind the giant step it will be taking to nationalize healthcare.
We have not had a Conservative voice in the District of Corruption in better than 15 years. Instead all we get is the leftists, the centrists, progressives and the RINO’s, to me all equals socialists.
Under the last months of Bush they voted on spending 700 Billion and dumped 350 Billion into the banks, has anything improved? NO. They are getting ready to dump the other 350 Billion in but Geitner in all his corrupt brilliance has yet to give out any details and the markets respond by falling 400 points. So everyone is still holding their hands out waiting for a bailout. My God, what have we come to?
0bama rambles on incoherently at his first presser reading from a teleprompter and then taking forever to answer the softball questions from the lame stream media. And today he is giving more campaign speak to a crowd that wants and wants and wants… gimme, gimme, gimme…..

So once more against public scrutiny Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the 0bama stimulus gets passed with the help of 3 republican socialists and at this point I think it is somewhere around 812 Billion. What’s going to be done with this pig pen of a mess? The list is never ending and every governor, supervisor, county executive is standing with their hands out just waiting for all this play money to get handed to them. Play money? Yes, it may as well be monopoly money because we have to print up this batch. Seems no one around the world wants to lend us this cash.
We are going down the crapper faster than I could have imagined. The damage that will be done to this economy will be the unrepairable one their actions, the catastrophe is congress and 0bama making the very same mistakes Japan made during the 90’s. Yes the lost decade 0bama talked about happened because Japan did exactly what 0bama and congress are doing right now.
God help this country, no one else seems to give a damn.
In many ways our economy already resembles a European one. As boomers age and spending grows, we will become even more French.

All of this is unfolding in an economy that can no longer be understood, even in passing, as the Great Society vs. the Gipper. Whether we like it or not—or even whether many people have thought much about it or not—the numbers clearly suggest that we are headed in a more European direction. A decade ago U.S. government spending was 34.3 percent of GDP, compared with 48.2 percent in the euro zone—a roughly 14-point gap, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In 2010 U.S. spending is expected to be 39.9 percent of GDP, compared with 47.1 percent in the euro zone—a gap of less than 8 points. As entitlement spending rises over the next decade, we will become even more French.
Does this guy have any clue as to not only the security risks but the requirement under the Law that he has no secrets hidden from us and the Congress that he has to deal with. Nixon was taken down because of his secrecy and the coverup after the breakin called Watergate. Carter signed the Law and it became the policy that every President has had to follow ever since.
In any national security briefing, in any security briefing all wireless devices are not allowed in to the room. All emails and correspondences are to be open and must be produced when there is an investigation.
The security risks are so numerous I could not begin to list them. Emails coming in to him as President in this device could come from anyone and this includes the shady characters that he was associated with in Chicago. The built in GPS? My god he could be pinpointed down to his exact location by any terrorist group or individual. It would become impossible to protect him from attack.
Wake up and smell the coffee Mr President Elect. The office you are about to take over is above your paygrade, it is a different world and yes there is a Presidential bubble, it is there to protect you. This is not a senate seat or a town council seat. This is the Office of President of the United States of America, the most powerful office in this country, please respect as so. If you can’t do that, maybe you should not take the oath on Tuesday.
Obama refuses to surrender Blackberry.
Despite legal and security hurdles, president-elect Barack Obama says he has a plan to retain his beloved Blackberry once he moves into the White House next week.
Interviewed by CNN Friday, Obama said the smartphone was among the tools that he would use to stay in touch with real Americans and avoid becoming trapped inside the presidential "bubble."
"I think we're going to be able to hang on to one of these. My working assumption, and this is not new, is that anything I write on an email could end up being on CNN," he said.
"So I make sure to think before I press 'send'," he said of his Blackberry, which was an ever-present fixture on his belt or in his hand on the campaign trail.
Obama did not divulge just how he will overcome legal constraints, given the requirement of the post-Watergate Presidential Records Act of 1978 to keep a record of every White House communication.
Nor did he say how he would persuade his Secret Service protectors that the Blackberry does not pose a security risk, for instance if it is hacked over the air.

Now America is learning to pronounce “Blagojevich” and discovering what The New York Times [NYT] calls “the murky and insular world of Illinois politics.” It’s a realm of open corruption, boundless greed and contempt for the law. And it’s the lifelong political home of President-elect Obama.

What, you didn’t know that Obama made his bones in the Chicago political machine? You didn’t know, for example, that he won his first election by getting one of his political mentors thrown off the ballot? Or about his financial support from corrupt Chicago moneyman Tony Rezko? Or how Obama and sidekick Rahm Emanuel advised the campaign of a machine hack named Rod Blagojevich?
You didn’t? Don’t feel bad. According to a post-election Zogby poll, a large majority of Obama supporters didn’t know key facts like these, either. And why should they? After all, NBC, The Boston Globe-Democrat and the rest of the Partisan Press had little interest in reporting these stories.
Instead, as the Chicago Tribune’s John Kass just wrote, the media “have been clinging to the ridiculous notion that Chicago is Camelot for months now. It must help them see Obama as some pristine creature, perhaps a gentle fawn of a magic forest, unstained by our grubby politics.”
“Grubby”? After reading the transcripts of Mr. and Mrs. Blagojevich’s political discussions, I needed a shower. Camelot it ain’t. This is the Chicago Way, and for two decades it’s been the Obama Way.
