Erie County Legislature Passes Resolution Opposing Wine in Grocery Stores

Well what do you know, they actually did something right. Bravo to them. This is a huge concern to the liquor stores and many of them fear going out of business costing thousands of jobs all for what? So Paterson and the Albany cronies can once again rape the businesses and people for yet more of our money. Get a life.

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — The Erie County Legislature voted unanimously Monday to pass a resolution opposing the Governor’s proposal to allow for the sale of wine in grocery stores.

A similar resolution passed the Legislature last year when the Governor first proposed the idea in 2009.

“I believe the impact of the Governor’s proposal on small business retailers that rely on 60%-80% of their overall sales in wine would be severe,” explained Legislator Lynn Marinelli (D-11th District). “The purchasing advantage of chain stores would drive the neighborhood liquor store out of business and the quick fix of tax revenue does not offset the loss to our community of that small business.”

Before the session, the Democratic members reviewed a letter from the NY State Liquor Association that quoted a study sowing 1,000 stores statewide could go out of business with a job loss of over 4,700 if this passed proposal by the state.
