Criticism Abound at NYS Budget Hearing

Schools advocates, union members and others? Hmmm I wonder who “others” mean? Surely not the taxpaying citizens of this state. But we read that James Parrott says…..

James Parrott, an economist at the Fiscal Policy Institute, says the state should hold off on making drastic cuts.

Hold off? hold off on making “drastic” cuts? What is a drastic cut in his opinion? And who is this Fiscal Policy Institute he works for? What kind of cuts should we make? As we are looking at a 4 billion deficit for this fiscal year alone, is there any other kind of cut that can be made?

School advocates and union members always seem to know about these hearings, gee, I wonder how. They always seem to get the heads up and are some of the only ones to show and voice their disgust and discontent at any kind of cuts. We on the other hand are actually working to pay them, we cannot go to Albany to voice our discontent. But when we do in a massive group and protest we are labeled as lunatics, extremists, nasty mean conservatives. We aren’t represented in Albany, only the special interests, unions and schools are. Our legislators have destroyed this state and we have no voice.

NEW YORK, NY October 27, 2009 —Schools advocates, union members and others are speaking out against Governor Paterson’s proposed budget cuts. They showed up at a Senate hearing on the matter yesterday.

PARROTT: I think there’s time given that the state’s fiscal year ends at the end of March, to see what’s going to happen with Wall Street profits in the 4th quarter, what’s going to happen to Wall Street bonuses, and what will the tax revenues associated with that will be.

REPORTER: Parrott also rejected the notion that higher taxes would drive wealthy residents out of the state, saying there was no evidence of that yet. The governor has said that without making substantial budget cuts the state’s credit rating will be threatened, and that its costs would spike.
