State Putting Deposit on Bottled Water

This is Antoine Thompsons bottle bill, yup the very same one that he sponsored in the senate will now be enforced as of Halloween. How many jobs will be lost over this Bill? Watch the fallout start to happen. So much for representing WNY. Good job Senator Thompson

Governor Paterson says a U.S. District Court has lifted an injunction involving nickel deposits on bottled water.

That means bottled water sold here in New York will include a 5 cent deposit, just like beer and soda.

It will start on Halloween.

Paterson says the Bigger Better Bottle Bill will provide much needed revenue for the state because it gets to keep 80 percent of the unclaimed deposits. That’s money given up when people don’t bring the empty containers back.

Environmentalists are also happy, saying it will result in higher recycling rates.
