NO New Plates petition! New York!

CANTON, N.Y. (AP) — A northern New York county clerk is carrying out an online petition drive to thwart Gov. David Paterson’s plan to require all New Yorkers to purchase new license plates next April. St. Lawrence County Clerk Patricia Ritchie said it’s an outrage to ask families and businesses to pay more for new license plates they don’t need…go to www.nonewplates.com to sign the online form, and then please forward this message.

JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST ALBANY’S NEW LICENSE PLATE MANDATE

Albany is requiring every motorist to replace their vehicle license plates, starting next spring. The mandates covers cars, trucks, trailers and motorcycles–even ATVs!

The new plates will cost $25 each.

Senator Darrel Aubertine and Assemblywoman Addie Russell are the only Northern NY Legislators who voted for this needless mandate.

Please join St. Lawrence County Clerk Patty Ritchie in urging our representatives to repeal the new license plate requirement.

Please tell the Governor Patterson …. you are against this needless expense

No new plates -start CUTTING the budget. Eliminate the off-budget-departments. Reduce wasteful employment . Stop increasing/adding fees!

  2. William Emmons says:

You gotta be kidding me!!! Have Albany politicians lost touch with the financial reality we common folks live with? I say they need to get rid of the hidden pet pork projects first. Next get rid of 2/3’s of the politicians and their posh spending habits that keep them in office with our money. Finally cut their benefits and salaries to match the rest of us and that should just about take care of the financial short-fall in the state. Amazing … most of the midwest states just put a set of plates on a car and those plates go with it until it is junked…Imagine something that is simple, fair and it works… is anyone listing????

  3. Mary Jane Parks says:

Patterson get out of your Ivory tower and you take a pay cut and see how you like it. No more limos for you. The gas taxes, now you want a bottle tax on water, the new tax on wine and now the new license plates?!! Where do you think people are getting their money? You have a money tree just keep spending and increase the deficit. We the people that pay you do not have this luxury. Do you have any common sense? Why don’t you tax the air while you are at it?

  4. connie Malloy says:

No new plates. I’m moving to NC if this happens.!

  5. Anita M McPhee says:

It is time for the govenor and the state legilature to make CUTS, not look to put the deficit on the financial backs of it’s citizens
A life long resident of NY State, I will not stay here when my income is fixed as a retiree.
CUTS,,,,,,,,,,the citizens have tightenend their belts. The ensatiable appetite in albany must be curbed now.

  6. Don’t they tax us enough, gas going up everytime you look, water is being ask for a .$.05 charge let them live on what some people have too that wouldn”t sit to well

  7. brian tillson says:

This is about computer chips in the license plates so that the gov’t can track how much driving we do, so they can tax us even more with a carbon usage tax! I want gov’t out of my life, not in my car with me!!!We could save even more money if we go to one plate per vehicle, like many other states do.

  8. Everytime the Governor proposes something, such as cutting education funds and what not. He has the habit of shifting the worries toward something else; new plates. These are many of the Governor’s ploys in not knowing really how to solve fiscal dilema’s. After all, we never voted him in, in the first place.
    No offense.

  9. leon morse says:

I think people in New York pay enough for plates now.

  10. First you increase the drivers license fee. Then you increase the registration fee, charge to turn in an old battery, charge to get rid of old worn out tires, charge to turn in old license plates. Now you want everyone to turn in perfectally good plates (for another fee) and buy new plates. Computer chips in the new plates??? Doesn’t the government have more important things to worry about.

  11. John P. baim says:

The waste of material & labor to implement this will reduce the net gain -not to mention all the paperwork problems this will incur on everyone – not needed -if have to raise tax then raise them -this is a waste of time-material & labor for everyone-nothing wrong with plates that i have.

  12. Pat Allen says:

    what wrong with this governor

  13. Pat Allen says:

Does this governor realize we are in a recession, or is he too blind to see that? It is hard enough for people to keep up with gas, insurance and repairs to get to work (IF THEY ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A JOB). And what about people with limited income that have sick and disabled children to take care of and get back and forth to Drs. appts. What he needs to do is cut the salaries and perks for himself and all the other fatcat politicians. This would probably cut our deficit in half. He needs to open his eyes to the needs of the PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS!!! WAKE UP GOV!!!!!

  14. Pat Allen says:

This is already the highest taxed state in the country!! AND THEY WONDER WHY WE ARE LOSING POPULATION!!!! I CAN’T WAIT TILL HE IS OUT OF OFFICE!!!!!

  15. Pat Pisanelli says:

No new plates, and no vote for Patterson !

  16. John says:

Those in power in Albany are going to do as they please folks! Your power is at the ballot box. Clean house in the next few elections. Write down the names of everyone holding a political office at this time and remove them from office when they run for reelection. We can’t be any worse off than we are now and who knows, we may even end up better off!!!

  17. Tom Anselmo says:

I wish all you people running for office, had to take a lie detector
test before running. I would love to see some of you go down
for raping the public. No age limit for rich assholes.

  18. Brian says:

If the state leaders don’t back down on the fees (taxes), then lets have a good old fashion protest, go to the D.M.V. and pay the $25.00 in NICKLES AND DIMES. They are nickle-n us to death. Maybe if we pay in legal tender (change) may come.

  19. Ray & Louise Milunski says:

The governor should work to ELIMINATE the per diem payments as well as cut
the salaries, pensions, perks, etc. that legislators and their friends receive. The general voting public has no control over any of this.

  20. MeScha says:

I agree with the previous poster who suggested we vote every incumbent out of office.
I’m not looking at party affiliation or advertising next time ’round – if you’re in office the day before the election, you’ll be out the day after.
That’s it, Albany, looks like this was your one way ticket to the unemployment lines.
    INCUMBENTS OUT!

  21. Karen says:

The last person to leave New York State please turn off the lights….if there are any left to turn off. The $25 fee for mandatory new license plates is insane. You are penalizing ALL New Yorkers when we are not the ones who have overspent year after year. Ask anyone, except those elected in Albany, how to maintain a budget and I’m sure they can tell you. I’m not getting any increase in my social security, BUT everything is going up, and up. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Don’t count on my vote!! How about a pay reduction for all of you and reject any “automatic” pay increase.

  22. Donald Lyman says:

Untill we all go to the poll’s and exercise our right to vote we will be stuck with trash such as our gov. New Plates? I thought rape was a crime? Not a crime for our politician’s I guess. My plates are fine. Don’t need replacement.

  23. ALVA LAWTON says:

LETS EVERYONE GET REAL. THE PLATES ON BOTH OF MY VEHICLES,
LOOK NEW;AND HAVE HAD THEM FOR YEARS. WE DON’T NEED NEW PLATES AT A SURCHARGE OF $25.00 EACH

  24. Don’t need new plates as they are in good conditions. They look good.

  25. LYN SMITH says:

Enough is Enough! I can’t afford to live in NYS any more!! If NYS is so far in debt, then why are the Welfare recipients getting raises? They don’t work! WELFARE IS NOT A CAREER!!! Why take money from the hard working people and give it to people that have no desire to work. NYS makes it too easy for people to be on welfare. Why should I work? I can make more money sitting on my lazy butt and doing nothing all day! WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE????

NYS needs to take a hard look at where they’re spending money — the legislatures don’t need a raise either. Especially when they’re laying off State workers and making people take a 5 day lag in pay.

HELLO, MR. GOVERNOR — YOU SHOULDN’T BE IN OFFICE!

  26. Scott says:

I’d like to know who made it ok for our Governor and Senators to have limos and other such perks provided to them at the tax payer’s expense? Oh, right, they did!! And there wasn’t anything we could do about it. They aren’t Elite members of society. It’s just a job, one they suck at, and they chose it. So get rid of the legislation that provides these perks, bring their salaries down, and make it a fair job and we’ll see some change. I’m afraid we lost our only hope to turn NY around when we told Tom Golisano three years in a row that we didn’t want a business man to run our state. Why not? We’d at least have a balanced budget!! His move out of NYS was a strong message to the rest of the residents of NY. I agree with many of the previous comments that we need to get rid of ALL of the incumbents. You can have a candidate with a great attitude and fresh ideas in office, and he is just going to have pork shoved down his throat by the incumbents and will be locked out of making any good changes that threaten the self-serving assholes already in office. Toss them all out and start over.

  27. DEE TUCKER says:

THE PRESENT PLATES HAVE ONLY BEEN OUT FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 YEARS. WE DO NOT NEED NEW ONES AGAIN. WE CAN’T AFFORD THEM NOW WHEN IT COMES TIME TO RE-REGISTER WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE CAN AFFORD AN ADDITIONAL FEE FOR NEW PLATES? STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE PERSON WHO ONLY MAKES AN AVERAGE WAGE AND NOT THE ONES WHO MAKE $90,000+ ANNUALLY.

  28. Peggy Miller says:

Governor Paterson. I Hope you enjoyed your one turn as governor. It’s the last time you will be in office. You have failed the hardworking middle class of New York State.

  29. keith freeman says:

we have a bunch vampires running this state, their sucking the life blood out of the working man, trying to tax us right out of new york city,we must suffer so they can keep their high paying jobs,i live in harlem, born in harlem hospital and i ain’t leaving, how about you enforce the speed limit in the city,i see these cabs run old ladys out of the crosswalk daily!
how about you enforce the driving rules and access penaltys for those who don’t comply, how about you regulate and train at their expence all of these cab drivers driving around like mad men ,and can’t even SPEAK ENGLISH! thats right we have drivers who don’t even speak english. HOW CAN YOU DRIVE A CAB AND NOT SPEAK THE LAUNGUAGE! i bet they know how to count, these are the people who should pay more, the speeders, the bandit cab drivers who don’t speak english. ENFORCE THE LAWS YOU ALREADY HAVE ! INSTAED OF MAKING NEW ONES…if you guys just enforce the speed limit on lenox ave.-7th. ave-8th ave. you could make enough money to do what needs to be done at the cost of those WHO DON’T FOLLOW THE RULES not everybody–there are those of us that do follow the rules-IM SCI-FI PRIME

  30. Joel Blau says:

I agree with all of the comments previously stated. Albany should clean
up their house first. Cut out all the perks that the taxpayers are paying
for. No new pay increases for the State Legislators, and remove the
previous one. NO NEW TAXES OR FEES.

  31. Richie says:

I just bougut a 2 year old car last year and paid for new plates. Why should buy new plates again. If new youk state and the Governor insist on new plates they should be given out at the states cost. like it was from when they took away lady liberty plates… we dont need to spend more money to go to work. take take take thats N.Y.S. & Paterson

  32. Charlene Bezear Freeman says:

Can we live!!! Enough is enough. NO NEW PLATES!

    We don’t need them.

Don’t fix anything that is not broken!!!!!!!!!!

Governor, please give us a brake…have you forgotten where you came from?

  33. Charlene Girmonde says:

Now I’ve heard it all. It’s no wonder that people are leaving the State. Try fixing the waste in NYS government first! The current plates are attractive and we don’t need new ones. This is just another ploy to suck more out New Yorkers. Patterson should be ashamed of himself. He won’t receive my vote for sure.

  34. Pat says:

    ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!

  35. Fran says:

No new, ugly, expensive plates. Lady Liberty rules!!

  36. William says:

Are you kidding me. I mean I understand we need to cut the deficit, but do we have to do it by unnecessary means? Nobody actually needs new plates unless they were somehow damaged. I understand doing this for first time registrants but I have had my plates for six years now and they are perfectly fine. And what about being green. What will happen to the old plates. Will they be reused or sent to some land fill to further degrade our environment. I also read in the NY Daily news that you will have to pay an additional $20 on top of the $25 charge if you want to keep the same plate # bringing the total to $45 for an item I do not need. Goto http://www.nonewplates.com to sign up for the petition.

  37. Bret says:

Every voter needs to remember all that has happened in Albany when Election Day, 2010 rolls around. Vote every incumbent out of there. It’s time for change.

  38. Nypinta says:

I’m not happy about the new plates either, but every state is increasing DMV fees in one way or the other to make up for shortfalls. You think plates are expensive here? In Florida you pay 100.00 and it’s mandatory to get a new set every five years. In CA it can cost close to 500.00 to put a car on the road.
Yes, I’d rather they looked at the budget to cut things, which is what Patterson keeps telling them to do and they keep saying they can’t or won’t and voting themselves a raise after months of screwing around with power plays. And guess whats going to happen when it comes time to vote? No one is going to get rid of their guy. No, it’s always the legislator from another part of the state that should go. Just watch.
As for “pork spending”, one counties pork is anothers project to create much needed jobs.
The perks however have to go. They should be driving their own cars, paying for their own lunches. Why don’t we, who they are supposed to work for, get to vote on their raises and suplementals? Someone should look into that. Because I want to rescind their raises.

  39. I was hit by a new saltwater fishing licence for U.S.$150 for life, now this? give a breke mister Paterson

  40. Finob says:

    POLITICAL PIMPS vs. TAXPAYING HOS!

LEGALIZED THIEVERY because OH what a cash cow IT IS!

    R-E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N!!!

  41. Leonard Eueler says:

NY PML Sec. 105 is unconstitutional.
Each and every OTB in the State has the right to open on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. The State looses about $250,000 or more on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday by the Off Track Betting Corporations failing to open.
NY PML Sec. 105 has no secular purpose and expresses a clearn religious preference. NY PML Sec. 105 is not applicable to the OTBs as the OTBs are in the betting business and take bets on out of state tracks. The statute simply prohibits racing, the running of horses, in NY State on Christmas, Easter and Palm Sunday. A lawyer should be able to make some money by sueing Patterson to have NY PML Sec. 105 declared unconstitutional and/or inapplicable to the OTBs.
New York City OTB opened on these days in 2003 upon the advice of its Counsel Ira Block Esq. but failed to challenge the law and/or its applicability to the OTBs in Court.

It is up to us to help do the work of the Governor and Legislature by employing the Judicial Branch.

Pay $25 for license plate? Hell no! County Clerk Patricia Ritchie has the right idea but needs to expand her thinking to include the above.

    Spread the word.

It is up to us to be more than the cash clowns that are taken for inert, stupid, deaf, dumb, blind, nonthinking, and unable to debate civilly with each other.

I say sue ‘em and make them pay so we can bet and they can learn what is constitutional and what is not.

  42. Roberto Cardona says:

If they need the money that bad why not get the money from the UN deplomats who refuse to pay their tickets and owe millions of dollars to the state!!!!

  43. Mr. & Mrs. John Orlando says:

New York is really getting ridiculous to live in. The rents are high enough and you get nothing for your money. The salarys are really bad.

We both are against this new plate. More money for us and we only have 1 income. Why is it the middle class people always suffer one way or another. Is this really needed???? If we are going back to the 70s with the plate lets go back with everything!!!!!!

  44. Gene Komuda says:

Getting New York out of debt is a great thing; however putting the middle class further into debt is not the solution. If the people have to work to support their monthly bills and TAXES only, then how can we support our local economy or small business owners??? Maybe we need take a better look at how Welfare is run. My Wife and I both have full time jobs, pay taxes, and my family of four still has to eat and drink generic food products just to save a buck. Meanwhile, I am in line at the local Walmart with my cart of Great Value product’s and in front of me in line whom do I see? Mr. and Mrs. Welfare with a shopping cart full of all the best name brand products. Just imagine the savings there alone, and don’t even get me started on the $200 for each child school supply checks. I know that people who don’t work, don’t have a lot of time to do some bargain shopping. They are probably to busy cooking and enjoying their name brand groceries.

Therefore, please leave the plates that I already work to pay for out of it!!!!!!

    Thanks

  45. sarah g. shumaker says:

Please add me to your list against the 25 dollar new license plates for NY
    drivers.Thank you very much!

  46. Glenn says:

NO new plates ! The one I have is just find THAN YOU.
