My god politicians love to study things and all that is really is a delay. I just wish they would face the fact the the population of Erie County is now below a million people and the need for 15 legislators is obsolete. A few years back we dropped two now it is time to drop six, let’s get down to nine. It’s tough enough to get a room full of people to agree on anything especially when each and every one has their own political agenda, their own patronage jobs they have to consider. So the fewer the members the better the possibility of actually getting something done and saving the taxpayers money. What a concept.
When the government works for the betterment of only themselves they have lost focus and their mindset is completely away from the reason why they were elected. Population continues to leave for greener pastures yet, government continues to grow. Save us all the headache and just vote to downsize, do the right thing for once.
Now about Lamparelli… What? what did she say? Someone coming in from the Buffalo schools to head this up? This school system is worse than the government, we pay over $25,000 per student, per year and have a graduation rate of 46% and we are going to have her lead the study? OMG….she’ll come back saying we need more legislators and each one will need a superintendent and an assistant superintendent and all with highly paid staff. I think she will be putting lipstick on a pig, that’s just my opinion, I guess we will find out in two years.
Commission To Study Legislature
A nine member panel will review the future of the Erie County Legislature. The 21st Century Commission will look at the functions of the legislature, whether or not they are effective and if the body needs to be downsized.
Martha Lamparelli, a Buffalo Schools special education coordinator will chair the commission. After talking about the winning Buffalo Bills, Lamparelli said, “We were just watching ESPN and everybody’s saying Buffalo’s a pleasant surprise. I’d love to carry it over to how our government can be more efficient.”
The commission will meet for the first time on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in County Hall at 4pm. The public is welcome.
The commission doesn’t expect to make recommendations until 2010.
