Well I always called him Pataxme so yes Governor you did have it wrong. I did notice that he did not apologize for calling the legislators bloodsuckers… He is dead on right on that one but as we just saw, every two years they continue to get re-elected because no one votes in the primary. In most districts in this state there really is no general election because all the districts are gerrymandered toward one party or the other.
One thing Paterson said is very true, it is always the legislature that can and will override a governors veto. They did the majority of the time during Pataxme and will keep on doing it and raise taxes, fees, etc because they can. They cannot be held accountable in elections. We eother learn that or we will continue down that slide to the economic abyss.
Paterson apologizes over Pataki comment
NEW YORK STATE — Governor Paterson apologized one day after he made a comment about former Governor George Pataki.
On Tuesday, Paterson said, “Governor Pataxi, or I mean Governor Pataki, as he’s appropriately named.”
While Governor Paterson is never lacking in the humor department, many people did not find his comments funny. They are just one of a string of recent statements that have caused some backlash, including a comment made earlier in the week where he called his fellow legislators bloodsuckers.
On Wednesday the Governor released an apology statement, saying he mistakenly spoke about Pataki.
The statement said, “I was wrong and I want to point that out for the record. In 2003, Governor Pataki vetoed what was then the largest proposed tax increase in New York State history. Governor Pataki recognized the strain this would place on the families, seniors and small businesses of New York and instead wanted state government to trim spending. His veto was subsequently overridden by the Legislature. I have echoed many of Governor Pataki’s same concerns and taken his lessons to heart in responding to the current fiscal crisis. I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding my statements may have created about Governor Pataki’s record.”
