DiPietro urges repeal of state gas tax
East Aurora, New York, August 15, 2008. David DiPietro, Republican candidate for state senator in the 59th district (Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario) will hold a press conference in Rochester on Tuesday, August 19th, at 11:00 a.m. to discuss his proposal to repeal the state gas tax of 32.4 cents per gallon.
The event will be held at Manhattan Square Park in downtown Rochester (353 Court St, Rochester, NY 14607)
The 59th District is gerrymandered to make it difficult for anyone to oust an incumbent. It includes two major media markets, Rochester and Buffalo.
In 2006, Free New York used this district to illustrate the evils of gerrymandering.
“Dale Volker promised a gas tax holiday but the only holiday I’ve seen is Dale’s holiday from cutting the spending we need to reduce taxes,” DiPietro said.
DiPietro also noted that Volker has refused an offer to debate him before the September 9th primary election.
DiPietro proposes to cut the state senate budget to help pay for the gas tax cut. He noted that Dale Volker has been criticized recently for spending nearly a hundred thousand tax dollars on mailings to constituents just ahead of the 30-day deadline before the primary, and that Volker has as many as 17 staffers and a payroll of about $800,000.
