Grand Island Toll rally August 30th 2008

Above is David DiPietro, Rus Thompson and Mark Grisanti
David is running against Dale Volker and Mark is running against Antoinne Thompson for Senate

Rus Thompson and Francine DelMonte she represents the 138th Assembly District

For the past few weeks I have been sending emails to supporters and the Western New York delegation informing them about this rally August 30th. After repeated emails the only responses we received were from the Challengers.
Len Roberto running for assembly against Cole called and wished us luck, gave us his support but had a prior commitment. We Thank him for his support.

Special Thanks goes out to Mark Grisanti who if elected will represent this district. He was there and spoke to everyone and gave his commitment to follow through and get our toll Bill to the floor for a vote. As Mark has been knocking on doors in this district, he sees just how important this issue is to all of us. Mark walked and talked to everyone. Thank you Mark.
Antoinne Thompson was a no show.

A big Thank you to David DiPietro, David drove all the wat in from East Aurora to join us and give us his solemn promise to stand toe to toe with us to end these tolls. Although this is no where near his Senate district David showed us all his committment to help all the people of Western New York. David agrees with us all that eliminating these tolls and keeping 32 Million of our dollars in WNY is crucial to the economy.
Dale Volker was a no show.

Francine Delmonte joined us and we had a good conversation, she also agrees with us but also tried to explain about the economy and how Albany uses the surplusses from the authorities to help balance the budget, it’s a matter of economics and of course politics. Thank you Francine for coming out and also speaking to the people one on one.

Hey DNC….We're Over It. Now You Get Over It!

Some comments:

Sorry DNC, we’ve washed our hands of your candidate and quite possibly of the freak show that is the DNC. The ball is in your half of the court. Deal with it. You’re on your own now, since you don’t need us.

For the first time in my entire adult life, I’m proud to be voting Republican

The DNC handed the silver platter with the keys to The White House on it back to the GOP’s during the “faux call” on the floor of the Convention.

Can not wait to see this NEW UNDEMOCRATIC PARTY lose in November

The DNC insiders never, ever planned on allowing Hillary to be on the top of the ticket. They sabatoged her candidacy and in doing so defrauded her supporters. We were used and abused. Well no more……PUMA!

No, no, no….Not God Bless the DNC. God Damn the DNC.
Democratic ***CHICKENS*** are becoming INDEPENDENT

ditto. donna brazile’s remarks were just disgraceful and the phony roll call was pitiful. they dont need us and they are not going to get us. it was your choice dnc. you told us to go away and we will.

Hillary has a huge I Told You So light shining all around her. She will continue to work for our country and the party of FDR, and when the DNC hooligans are kicked to the curb, Hillary will rise–as usual.

In the meantime, I’m looking for a Hillary Supporter for McCain/Palin button.

PUMA!

Hey DNC….We’re Over It. Now You Get Over It!

We watched in horror as you told your base that they were no longer needed and that we could just “stay home”. We watched in stunned outrage when you were silent on sexism and propelled the race card.

You called us uneducated, old, blue collar, gun toters, clingers, not urban, souless, clueless, and basically threw us to the dogs. You told us to shut up, get over it and fall in line.

Many of us have donated, worked hard for the DNC for years if not decades. We have been true blue loyal and you not only turned your backs on us, you did everything in your power to humiliate us. We are over it. We will not be back as long as the DNC is being run by a bunch of left wing zealots. We will not stay home and we will not vote Democrat this year. What a bummer, huh?

GET OVER IT!

For all the attack dogs and nay sayers out there. Look at what the Hillary supporters are saying and doing. For those that said Palin would not bring in Hillary voters, take a look. For the people that follow democrat underground and George Soros… I feel really sad that you feel and said the disgusting things they say and do.

These people are supporting Palin because she is a woman, not the feminist abortion anti mother people.

(August 29, 2008) – Action Items: 1) Donate to McCain to affirm Palin pick; 2) Stay vigilant for all sexism against Palin – www.hillaryclintonforum.net
Donate to John McCain and Sarah Palin, and let them know you love this pick and are thrilled that McCain showed Palin the respect that Democrats, and Barack “You’re likable enough” Obama in particular, NEVER showed Hillary Clinton:

https://secure.johnmccain.com/Contri…ntributeE.aspx

Show McCain, Palin and America that you support women in the executive branch!

*

There are already stunning, sexist attacks against Palin all over the kook blogosphere. Daily Kos is comparing her with Dan Quayle, implying that she is mere eye candy, likely kind of dim-witted, and totally disrespecting her and all women.

Palin was both a mayor and a governor of the largest state in America. And these pigs are just dismissing her as though she were some joke in glasses.

The only party that’s dissed a high-profile woman recently is the Democratic Party. What they did both in rigging the system so Hillary could not win the nomination and what Obama did in utterly disrespecting Hillary by not even vetting her for the VP was unconscionable. A disgrace.

*

Today, we have a ticket that respects women as equals and recognizing their full worth.

Please, donate to that ticket today and show America that you appreciate this historical McCain/Palin combination, and that you want to help bring America its first-ever female Vice President.

The glass ceiling is cracking. Let’s shatter it!

Why the left is scared to death of McCain's running mate

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

weekly-standard.jpg

Palin is everything we look for in a Primary Challenge candidate whether it be R or D, it doesn’t matter. She went after the “Party”, the corruption, the status quo and the continued abuses of the good olde boys network. People like her and I are despised by the party bosses. It is not about the “Parties” it is about the People and she has exemplified that in her career and this is an opportunity for America to get a kisk ass politician in office at the Federal level.

If this was a primary, I would move to endorse her over any other that came along. The track record speaks for itself.

Let Palin Be Palin

Why the left is scared to death of McCain’s running mate.

A spectre is haunting the liberal elites of New York and Washington–the spectre of a young, attractive, unapologetic conservatism, rising out of the American countryside, free of the taint (fair or unfair) of the Bush administration and the recent Republican Congress, able to invigorate a McCain administration and to govern beyond it.

That spectre has a name–Sarah Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska chosen by John McCain on Friday to be his running mate. There she is: a working woman who’s a proud wife and mother; a traditionalist in important matters who’s broken through all kinds of barriers; a reformer who’s a Republican; a challenger of a corrupt good-old-boy establishment who’s a conservative; a successful woman whose life is unapologetically grounded in religious belief; a lady who’s a leader.

So what we will see in the next days and weeks–what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination–is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.

That’s why Palin’s spectacular performance in her introduction in Dayton was so important. Her remarks were cogent and compelling. Her presentation of herself was shrewd and savvy. I heard
from many who watched Palin–many of them not predisposed to support her–about how moved they were by her remarks, her composure, and her story. She will have a chance to shine again Wednesday night at the Republican convention.

But before and after that, she’ll be swimming in political waters infested with sharks. Her nickname when she was the starting point guard on an Alaska high school championship basketball team was “Sarah Barracuda.” I suspect she’ll take care of herself better than many expect.

But the McCain campaign can help. The choice of Palin was McCain’s own. Many of his staff expected, and favored, other more conventional candidates. The campaign may be tempted to overreact when one rash sentence or foolish comment by Palin from 10 or 15 years ago is dragged up by Democratic opposition research and magnified by a credulous and complicit media. Who is Governor Sarah Palin

mccain-palin.jpg

Who is Governor Sarah Palin

Sarah Heath Palin (born February 11, 1964) is the current Governor of Alaska, and a member of the Republican Party. She is the youngest and first female governor of Alaska. Brought to statewide attention because of her whistle blowing on ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders,[1] she won election in 2006 by first defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election. On August 29, the Associated Press reported that “speculation [has] moved to [Palin as a] dark horse” pick for the vice president running mate slot by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.[2] The CNBC news service is now reporting that Palin will in fact be the GOP vice-presidential nominee.[3]

She is reported to be a possible choice for the Republican Party’s nomination as Vice President of the United States in the 2008 election. Formal announcement of the presumptive nominee will be made in Dayton, Ohio on August 29, 2008, by Presidential candidate John McCain.

Palin was born as Sarah Louise Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho, the daughter of Charles and Sally (Sheeran) Heath.[4] Her family moved to Alaska when she was an infant.[5] Charles Heath was a popular science teacher and coached track.[5] The Heaths were avid outdoors enthusiasts; Sarah and her father would sometimes wake at 3 a.m. to hunt moose before school, and the family would regularly run 5k and 10k races.[5]

Where was substance in Obama's acceptance?

Friday, August 29th, 2008

obama-speech.jpg

Barry’s failure to break new ground was a missed opportunity. Instead of the terms of a new deal, Obama left voters with a persistent plea for their trust in him. Trust that the time is ripe for change and trust that he can deliver it.

It was well delivered, but it was SOS. The same old stuff.

Take from the Rich to give to the poor

Hire an Army of school teachers

Energy independence as long as we don’t drill

Save this and that program but don’t say how we will pay for it.

I will give it an 8 on delivery, and a 1 on substance.

Where was substance in Obama’s acceptance?

After three days of Democrats trying to portray their nominee as a normal Everyman, Barack Obama accepted their nomination on a stage fit for Superman.

A Hollywood version of the White House facade plopped down in the middle of a tricked-out football stadium was a grand idea if the goal was to create a media spectacle. But to communicate a message of realistic hope for a beleaguered middle class, fake grandeur was an odd choice.

Using a facade to appear presidential invites wisecracks about a nominee already derided as a messiah wanna-be. And the numerous references by warmup speakers to Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. are gratingly outsized for the 47-year-old rookie senator.

[Snip]

The grace notes were reserved for the defeated and abandoned; the hardest and most effective ones aimed at George Bush, John McCain and big corporations. The populism was contagious, the contempt for banks, insurance and oil companies relentless.

Haunted by suggestions he is not patriotic, Obama tried to confront them by directly declaring his love for America and pledging to defend it, with force if necessary. That he finds it necessary at this late stage to make such basic claims for a potential commander in chief shows he knows the issue is hurting him among voters.

Did he succeed in containing the damage? Probably not, because he had nothing new to say on the subject.

He also fell short of the expectation he would be workmanlike and very specific about helping the middle class. Though he ticked off a list of promises, none was new or striking. And there were so many that the list seemed like the proverbial Christmas tree – something for everyone, but no clear priority.

McCain to Unveil VP Pick (looks Like Palin)

….. DENVER — Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice…..

Grand Island history 50 years ago Tolls go to Court

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

paid-thanks.jpg

50 Years ago this week the town of Grand Island authorized spending $500. to fight the Grand Island Tolls legality in court. 50 years later? We are still fighting the tolls that have been here for 73 years.

Think about this now. We are still fighting the tolls. This time it is entirely a grass roots effort and we are closer than ever to getting this done. Why? Because for years everyone went after the thruway authority, an unelected, appointed, unaccountable “AUTHORITY” that answers to no one and even over the objections of the legislature and the governor they still raise tolls across the state. We got hit with a 33% increase where the rest pay 10% more.

Our battle changed course earlier this year, instead of focusing on the thruway authority we made the decision to make this a governmental issue taking the thruway out of the way. By turning the 190 over to the NYSDOT and eliminating the TA’s reign and control the tolls will be gone. Instead the 190 and the Grand Island Bridges will be maintained by federal highway funds. These funds we pay every time we buy gas and diesel, $.19 per gallon. Last year the DOT collected 1.4 Billion but not a dime made it to the 190 or the bridges, although the federal government was billed for these highway lane miles.

Currently our toll bill S6824 sits on the floor in the senate just waiting to be voted on. Assembly Bill A10003 still sits in committee and our Western New York delegation has failed us to get it out and a vote taken. Why? Why when just this past session the assembly voted to remove two separate tolls on the main line thruway DOWNSTATE.

Downstate gets their way yet again while we are tossed aside like an unwanted stepchild. The WNY delegation says they agree with our Bill and also have expressed their desire to reduce and eliminate the thruway authority yet they seem powerless to actually represent us. Call them and tell them it is time. Come out and give a show of support Saturday at Isle View Park on River Rd right by the Grand Island Bride, Saturday August 30th between 2 and 3 PM. I have invited all of them to be there to explain to you where they stand.

We can win this battle and end these senseless tolls once and for all, 73 years is long enough. Have you signed the petition? Sign it now at

Grand Island Record – HISTORY: GI history for week of Aug. 23 – 29
Grand Island history for week of Aug. 23 – 29 50 years ago

Are the tolls illegal? That’s what a Buffalo law firm — hired by the Town Board — was entrusted to find out, according to the Aug. 21, 1958, edition of the Island Dispatch. The primary questions facing Louis DelCotto of Jaeckle, Fleischmann, Kelly, Swart and Augspurger would be the legality of the tolls and the possibility of having reduced rates for Islanders. The legal fees were not to exceed $500.

Let wealthy relieve tax burden of poor

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Anybody else getting sick and tired of hearing these lame brained statements? Let the rich pay more, it’s not fair, it’s an uneven playing field, blah, blah, blah. Never, ever do they look in the mirror all they can do is point the finger of blame at the rich and at us.

We pay more taxes for schools in this state than just about any other in the nation. Up to 20 grand per student, per year, $20,000 plus yet we have the lowest graduation rates. What does more money get you? Look at Buffalo….. 25,000 per student, 46% graduation rate and piss poor test scores. Yet it is one of the biggest and most expensive school districts in the country.

Until we get a legislature that is not controlled by the teachers unions and every other union we will see no change. Time to wake up New York, your legislator sucks.

Today in New York, the top tax rate begins at $42,000 a year, meaning a millionaire pays the same tax rate as a nurse or a firefighter. It’s unfair, and when the wealthy don’t pay their fair share, the rest of us have to pick up the tab.

Let wealthy relieve tax burden of poor

The property tax burden in greater Rochester and across New York is out of control. Despite that consensus, there’s no agreement on how best to rein in property taxes.

Gov. David Paterson and the state Senate support the tax cap, while a bipartisan coalition in the Assembly supports a tax rebate program called the “circuit breaker.”

The tax cap, which limits only the rate that property taxes can increase, will not ease the tax burden for working families and seniors already suffering with unaffordable property tax bills. Just as bad, education experts warn that the cap could seriously hurt public schools at a time when we can’t afford to stop investing in our kids.

DiPietro demands that Volker fire staffer

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

david-dipietro-for-ny-senate.jpg

For immediate release:
DiPietro demands that Volker fire staffer
DIPIETRO FOR SENATE

David DiPietro’s statement in response to charges against Volker staffer Harry Wahl

This morning, EastAurora.org published an investigative report by their editor Joe Logan which charges a member of Dale Volker’s Senate staff, Harry Wahl, with possible criminal misconduct.

The story alleges that Wahl made threats against me and my family and to David and Laura Gunner if the Gunners continued to support me for state senator.

Here is the link: http://www.eastaurora.org/article.aspx?artno=831

The article reads in part:
“Gunner went on to detail more of the conversation. “He told my wife, ‘If you are friends with Theresa DiPietro you should start saving her moving boxes, because when I am done with her husband, she will be divorced. He will lose his house and his business.’ Then he told us he had the resources available to make it happen.”
“Initially he thought it was a joke, but soon found out it was not.
“Who was the man that approached him? None other than the Harry Wahl. Wahl is husband of Town of Aurora councilmember Kelly Wahl and an Aurora resident. He is also the Chief of Staff / Director of District Operations for State Senator Dale Volker according to his page on LinkedIn.”

A prior report at NewWNYPolitics disclosed threats made by Republican Party Chair Jim Domagalski that the campaign would get “nasty” if DiPietro did not drop out of the race.

These thug-like tactics are one of the reasons that most citizens refuse to run for office or even get involve in campaigns. This has to stop or we will never be able to reverse our half-century of decline in this region.

I call on Dale Volker to immediately fire Harry Wahl and to condemn the behavior of Jim Domagalski. If this kind of misconduct is allowed to continue, the Republicans will have little chance of retaining control of the state senate.

I am also calling on Majority Leader Dean Skelos to likewise condemn and repudiate these tactics
