That is the only picture I could find, I hope it’s the right guy…. Of course they have time for the petitions. There is a process in place to replace Brunos name with any candidate.

Local Republican leaders could still file nominating petitions on Bruno’s behalf

Roy McDonald has the support of the Saratoga County Republican Committee to run for the state Senate seat being vacated by Joseph Bruno, county Republican Committee Chairman John “Jasper” Nolan said Tuesday.

“Certainly from Saratoga’s view, he would be an outstanding candidate. … But again we’d have to work with Rensselaer County on that,” Nolan said.

Rensselaer County Republican Chairman Jack Casey said Tuesday afternoon that McDonald has his full support.

It’s possible McDonald could face a primary challenge, but he hopes not, Casey said.

Casey said Bruno wants McDonald to run for the seat.

Sheldon Silver should get out NOW too

I was going to write this headline too. This would be the perfect time for Shelly to get out. And get out he should. With Bruno gone, Spitzer gone it should now read Silver gone. New leadership is exactly what we need, new leadership with agendas to help save this state, a state that is in a fiscal crisis worse than our politicians will ever admit.

Do us all a favor Shelly, retire now, how long is long enough?

Maybe Sheldon Silver should get out too

New leadership might be the best thing to ever happen to the dysfunctional state government in Albany.

While Joe Bruno may have done some great things in making sure that upstate citizens got their share of the spending pie, it seems like one of those situation where there is just too much history between Silver and Bruno for any compromise and reforms to actually be put in place.

This seems like a great time for Silver to bow out as well and let a whole new leadership see if they can reshape the government in Albany. (more…)

Dean Skelos was elected majority leader last night. His first statement of tackling the property taxes sets his agenda. Let’s see if the Democrats in the Assembly agree or continue to fight us.

“There is no issue that is more important to the people of this state than relief from escalating property taxes.

Dean Skelos chosen as New York Senate majority leader — Newsday.com

ALBANY – State Sen. Dean Skelos, the Rockville Centre Republican, was chosen Senate majority leader last night, entrusted with preserving his party’s slim hold on its only power base in state government.

Skelos, 60, succeeds Joseph Bruno, 79, who announced Monday he would not seek re-election this fall to the seat he’s held since 1976. Skelos was crucial to Bruno becoming majority leader in 1994 after a coup against the late Ralph Marino (R-Muttontown), who was the first Long Islander to lead the Senate. Speaking after being sworn in at 8:35 p.m., Skelos listed his top priorities as property tax relief and job creation.

“There is no issue that is more important to the people of this state than relief from escalating property taxes. I look forward in the next several weeks to sit down with Gov. [David A.] Paterson, to sit down with [Assembly] Speaker [Sheldon] Silver, to put together legislation that will go a long way to solving that problem.”

DiPietro calls for elimination of state gas tax

East Aurora, New York, June 24, 2008. David DiPietro, Republican candidate for state senator in the 59th district (Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario counties) today called for elimination of the state gas tax of about 32 cents per gallon.

“New Yorkers are suffering due to high prices and outrageous taxes. It’s an emergency and drastic measures need to be taken now.”

How does Mr. DiPietro propose to “pay for” the tax cut? Simple, he says, “Take the money handed out to special interests and use that money to fund a general tax cut for all New Yorkers including workers, families and small business.”

“I am convinced that in the 3106-page, six-inch thick, 15-pound New York State budget of $124 billion, there is two billion in spending we can do without. Certainly, our neighbors in Ohio and Pennsylvania do very well without such lavish spending.”

Thruway Authority Board Member Joins 2 On Your Side in the Red Zone

I had no idea this was on and I was responsible for the topic of conversation. But I was still working when this was on television.

This is an interesting video clip. Scott Levin did a great job asking her a few tough questions but we are still at the very same place we started. I would love to sit down and talk to her and explain to her the reasons why we need to get rid of these tolls, why we need to take the thruway authority out of controlling the 190 and then give her a tour of the dilapidated Grand Island Bridges. 100’s of millions of dollars have been collected at these toll booths over the 73 years. Had the money stayed here and actually did what they say it did we would be driving on bridges rated 10 instead of the 3.8 ratings we have now.

How can I know where she stands on these critical issues when she has yet to answer a question. If you can make heads or tails out of her answers than more power to you. Simply saying I’ll look into it is not taking a position, it is a typical political response of going all the way around a question with out answering it. With Jeff Williams we knew exactly where he stood and he was an ally.

Western New York’s newest representative on the Thruway Authority’s Board joined us in the Red Zone Friday on Channel 2 News at Six.

We asked Donna Luh about toll hikes and whether she feels the 5% hikes in 2009 and 2010, and the hike that took effect in January are fair to consumers dealing with rising prices.

New York Screws us again……..

New York screws us again

New York Screws us again…….. Can’t even make extra spare change in this state without them coming after it. And when I say spare change, that is exactly what I mean.

Dear Rus Thompson

As you may know, the State of New York recently enacted new legislation that addresses tax registration, collection and remittance, which challenges the CafePress affiliate business model.

Due to mounting uncertainly over these new laws we will no longer be able to support affiliates residing in the State of New York, effective July 1, 2008.

While CafePress has no tax nexus in any states other than California, Nevada and Kentucky we feel it wise to discontinue our affiliate business in New York State at this time.

Regrettably, our hand was forced into making this difficult business decision, and we openly acknowledge the loss of income this means for our New York affiliate partners. Should circumstances around this law change we will eagerly reconsider this decision.

Effective July 1, 2008 CafePress affiliate agreements with all New York residents will be terminated.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Affiliate Manager
CafePress

Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno won't run again

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

senate-majority-leader-joseph-bruno.jpg

STATEMENT BY SENATE MAJORITY LEADER JOSEPH L. BRUNO

Today, I met with my Republican colleagues in the Senate and informed them that I will not be running for re-election this November.

After 32 years in office, I have decided that it is time to move on with my life and to give my constituents an opportunity for new representation and my colleagues in the Senate who have supported me, an opportunity for new leadership.

Public service has been a blessing for which I will be ever grateful.

I have had the opportunity to work for and with hundreds of proud, distinguished New Yorkers. I have viewed my work not as a job, but as a privilege to come here day in and day out and stand up for the people of Rensselaer and Saratoga counties and stand up for the hardworking people I have come to know over the years.

Politics is a tough ball game. Tougher now than it has ever been.

But after 32 years of many successes and a few failures, I know now more than ever, and I can say that with comfort and confidence, there is no calling greater than that of public service.

There have been few more rewarding experiences in my life. But, timing in life is everything.

While there may never be a good time to make these kinds of life decisions, I have decided that it is time for me to move on with my life.

I do so with a heavy heart, but an optimistic soul. And I will rest peaceful in the knowledge that so many great things lie ahead for this great State that I have had the honor and privilege to serve.

GOP candidate for Fossella seat dies

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Wow, died of natural causes at 67…..?

GOP candidate for Fossella seat dies

The millionaire endorsed by Republican leaders as their candidate for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Vito Fossella has died at his Staten Island home.

Relatives say Frank Powers died in his sleep of natural causes Sunday. He was 67.

Powers was a board member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs New York’s massive bus and subway systems.

The retired Wall Street executive contributed often to GOP candidates but hadn’t run before for public office.

Fossella has held the House seat since 1997. But he was arrested in May on drunken-driving charges and later admitted he had fathered a child out of wedlock. He decided not to run for re-election.

Democratic leaders have targeted Fossella’s seat, which Republican have held for almost 30 years.
