DiPietro calls for elimination of state gas tax
East Aurora, New York, June 24, 2008. David DiPietro, Republican candidate for state senator in the 59th district (Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario counties) today called for elimination of the state gas tax of about 32 cents per gallon.
“New Yorkers are suffering due to high prices and outrageous taxes. It’s an emergency and drastic measures need to be taken now.”
How does Mr. DiPietro propose to “pay for” the tax cut? Simple, he says, “Take the money handed out to special interests and use that money to fund a general tax cut for all New Yorkers including workers, families and small business.”
“I am convinced that in the 3106-page, six-inch thick, 15-pound New York State budget of $124 billion, there is two billion in spending we can do without. Certainly, our neighbors in Ohio and Pennsylvania do very well without such lavish spending.”
DiPietro said, “The budget is loaded with pork, patronage and payoffs to special interest groups. It must be slashed so that hard-working New Yorkers can survive this spike in gas prices.”
DiPietro also dismissed his opponent Dale Volker’s “gas tax holiday” proposal as “phony baloney politics. It shows how out of touch Dale is that he proposes tax cuts without spending cuts and wants New York to resume its sky high gas taxes in September.”
