A new direction for New York politics?

A new direction? God I hope so. From what I am reading and hearing he hears the voices in the wilderness and those voices are ours. It seems that we may have some good people in high places with some influence. I am tired of going round in circles.

A new direction for New York politics? – Rochester, NY – MPNnow

Canandaigua, N.Y. -

Depending on what side of the aisle you’re on, Joseph Bruno, who recently announced he won’t seek re-election to the state Senate, embodied New York politics at its best — or worst.

The best? His long career as a public servant and his devotion to his home area, including Saratoga Springs and Rensselaer County. The 79-year-old Bruno, who was first elected to the state Legislature in 1976 and rose to Senate majority leader, is considered the oldest serving state legislative leader in the country.

The worst? Bruno’s detractors — and there are many — say he is a big reason why New York’s government is called one of the most dysfunctional in the country. A Republican, Bruno openly feuded with two Democratic governors — Mario Cuomo and Eliot Spitzer — and was even known to tangle with a fellow Republican, George Pataki, during the latter’s long tenure as governor.

Senator Skelos Reintroduces Himself to New York

Monday, June 30th, 2008

dean-skelos.jpg

I found out something very favorable for us and the toll fight. Skelos is on our side. I was told this yesterday by Senator Maziarz. And I also found out that the thruway authority got to Silver and Bruno, applied pressure and that is how the Bill got the brakes slammed on it.. The NYSTA does not want the tolls and the cash cow at the Grand Island Tolls taken away from them. So welcome aboard Senator Skelos.

Senator Skelos Reintroduces Himself to New York – June 30, 2008 – The New York Sun

Dean Skelos, who became the top Republican in Albany on Tuesday when Joseph Bruno announced his retirement, enters his first full week as the Senate’s majority leader with plans to reintroduce himself to state and city leaders. The 60-year-old Nassau County native has scheduled sit-down meetings with Governor Paterson, a Democrat whose relationship with Mr. Skelos is untested, and Mayor Bloomberg, an important financial contributor to the embattled Senate Republican

In a recent interview, Mr. Skelos spoke to The New York Sun about the divide between him and the Democratic speaker of the Assembly, Sheldon Silver, over property taxes, pressure on him to demonstrate his independence from interest groups, and his tastes in cinema, literature, and food.

BUSH ANGER AT COMING NEW YORK TIMES STORY

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

new-york-times-treason.jpg

Dear Mr. Bush,

I don’t want to hear about anger, unless it’s of the Bill Bixby / Lou Ferrigno variety.

If you’re truly angry, let your anger involve subpoenas.

I realize that you don’t like to speak up for yourself, but, sir, please, please realize that NO ONE ELSE IS GOING TO DO IT FOR YOU!!

Forget gravitas, have some cajones.
Revealing any details will put the Special Ops forces at risk. Why would the NYT put American lives at risk, especially for something they have been calling for for years – get Bin Laden?

Because they like when Americans are killed – more papers to sell to their left-wing readership AND they don’t want Bush to get Bin Laden.

Gas could fall to $2 if Congress acts

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Interesting, as we all look at big oil, the middle east and the Saudi oil kings most have failed to look at the real evil behind the high gas prices. Well the real evil shares the spotlight with the Democrats and Rinos in Washington.

Gas could fall to $2 if Congress acts, analysts say – MarketWatch

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The price of retail gasoline could fall by half, to around $2 a gallon, within 30 days of passage of a law to limit speculation in energy-futures markets, four energy analysts told Congress on Monday.

Testifying to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Michael Masters of Masters Capital Management said that the price of oil would quickly drop closer to its marginal cost of around $65 to $75 a barrel, about half the current $135.

Fadel Gheit of Oppenheimer & Co., Edward Krapels of Energy Security Analysis and Roger Diwan of PFC Energy Consultants agreed with Masters’ assessment at a hearing on proposed legislation to limit speculation in futures markets.

Krapels said that it wouldn’t even take 30 days to drive prices lower, as fund managers quickly liquidated their positions in futures markets.

State Legislature ends a wild, bizarre session

Friday, June 27th, 2008

albany-for-sale.jpg

And now that all the legislators are back to run for re-election and dole out their pork money to buy your votes we will have to suffer with the damage of things they passed and things they failed to act on.

Mark my words, they will say that it was a great session with landmark decisions and a budget we can all live with. I think what they are really saying is. We did what we could to pass legislation to our most important constituents, the unions that control us and line our pockets with cash. The rest of you can go to hell, sit down, shut up and just pay more for everything. We don’t have to respond to you, we are Albany and we do what we want, just ask Shelly Silver.

State Legislature ends a wild, bizarre session

ALBANY — Key measures affecting the upstate economy died Tuesday as Gov. David A. Paterson and legislative leaders ended this year’s legislative session, one of the more bizarre periods highlighted by the departure of its two biggest power brokers.

Left undone was an effort to lift what in a week will be a ban for hundreds of non-union companies from bidding on government construction projects.

The lawmakers also did not renew a law giving civic groups, schools, hospitals and others access to low-interest financing, leaving in doubt a number of Western New York projects.

The issue of rising property taxes, so prominent with voters, was pushed aside for another day.

Ex-staffer says top Shelly aide raped her and Silver did nothing about it

I posted about this and other stories about the rapes Silver apparently knew about but did nothing. I am glad it has come back to life and hope it comes back to haunt Silver and Boxley

Ex-staffer says top Shelly aide raped her and Silver did nothing about it

A woman who says Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver ignored her accusations of rape against one of his top aides is fighting back – working for a challenger trying to topple the powerful pol.

Elizabeth Crothers has since moved to California, but she’s so bent on ousting Silver that she is volunteering for Paul Newell, one of two Democrats taking on Silver in this fall’s Democratic primary.

Crothers said she plans to spend more time in New York raising money and campaigning for Newell, telling her story in hopes he can pull off a primary upset. Just this week, she was part of a host committee for a Newell fund-raiser.

“I see it as the only opportunity to bring real reform to New York and to unseat one of the worst leaders in the state and quite possibly in the nation,” Crothers said.

Silver – who was first elected in 1976 – hasn’t had a primary challenger in more than two decades.

Crothers, 32, was a young staffer for an upstate Republican assemblyman when she brought an internal complaint in 2001 with the Assembly that she was raped by Silver’s then-counsel Michael Boxley.

Crothers and her boss met directly with Silver, who she said was callously eating pretzels as she recounted her story.

Ted Nugent: DC Gun Ban Blown Away

Gotta love Ted Nugent… Thanks Ted for another great article and for standing up for our Constitutional Rights!

Ted Nugent: DC Gun Ban Blown Away

As I swab down one of my hundreds of privately owned, individually possessed firearms again this fine morning, I snicker and shake my head in disbelief that there are four “justices” on the “supreme” court that do not believe Americans have individual rights. Sure, I am somewhat pleased that we now have a SCOTUS confirmation of the self-evident truth and God given individual right to keep and bear arms, but the 5-4 ruling is another painful example, like Guantanamo and the decree against the death penalty for child rapist decisions that indicate a divisive culture war raging on, and four supreme justices frighteningly disconnected from the heart and soul of America.

Certain that God gave each of us the individual gift of life, and so very relieved that our founding fathers were prudent enough to write these self-evident truths down on paper for future reference, everybody I know needs no confirmation whatsoever that self defense, individual self defense is not only a God given right, but a moral imperative in the hearts and souls of good people everywhere.

Meyer's Musings – Grand Island Tolls

Meyer’s Musings – Grand Island Tolls

By Dan Meyer
Forget calling the region Western New York.

Redheaded stepchild is a more suitable moniker.

Despite all of the support shown by folks from these parts who want to see the collection of tolls for traveling on the Grand Island Bridge cease, it appears our good friends from downstate will once again get their way, meaning good old Western New York will continue to be ignored by the decision makers in Albany.

In case you missed it, the Assembly recently voted to eliminate a toll booth from Interstate 95 at the New Rochelle toll plaza on the Thruway. Motorists on that stretch of the I-95 currently pay $1.50 and the original plan was to raise that rate by a quarter next year.

But this latest action — Assembly members passed the measure by an 87 to 47 vote — called for the abolishment of the collection of tolls there because elected officials from downstate believe, in the words of Assemblyman George Latimer of Westchester, that the tolls “imposed unfair burdens on my constituents.”

Winner- NYSTA Loser-The People and Toll fight – How Much is Enough?

Winner- NYSTA Loser-The People and Toll fight – How Much is Enough?

I just got off the phone with Senator George Maziarz legislative aide in Albany. After a very long discussion of the 190 Toll Bill process. To recap we had a couple huge moves in the Senate, it is out of committee and was ready for a floor vote and debate when someone, we do not know who, slammed thee brakes on it. So there it sits in limbo, out of all the committees just waiting for the debate and a vote but where are our legislators? They have all gone home and this may not see the light of day until next year? This is unacceptable.

In the Assembly? even after a phone calling blitz, a fax blitz and as much of a lobbying effort I could give it without actually being there debating this issue with anyone that wanted to hear the facts, this Bill could not even make it out of committee. Bill A10003 is stuck in the Ways and Mean committee and that committee has 35 members. No wonder nothing gets done, I even wonder if there was any discussion. Not one single Assemblyman responded to my repeated requests as to where the Bill stood, not one. This is unacceptable.

After repeated emails to the Governors and I say that to cover Governors Pataki, Spitzer and Paterson, no one ever responded, none, not one.

The ONLY person that has stood far and above all the rest was and is Senator Maziarz and his staff. He is the only one that called, emailed and faxed information and kept us up to date. His staff knows exactly who we are and even recognizes my voice when I call every week. I want to openly Thank Senator Maziarz for everything that he and his staff has done and will continue to do with this crucial issue.

What was the hold up? MONEY, The Thruway Authority and their huge influence over our legislators do not want to lose the CASH COW at the Grand Island Tolls. So WHO wins? The Thruway Authority. Who loses? The people of Western New York who for the foreseeable future will continue to dump 30 Million Dollars into the thruway coffers so they can fund projects downstate. We know this from all the years past. Next year they will BORROW more than 45 Million to re-deck the South Bridge…. Instead of US going after Federal Highway Funding to rebuild and or Build New Bridges, The People of Western New York will continue to Pay and Pay dearly. For what? Another huge authority that acts on it’s own todo what it wants, unaccountable and apparently untouchable by Albany and our Legislators.

Whats the next step? As much as all of them would like me to sit down and shut up, we will continue on. I have requested an appointment with Governor Paterson. We will plan a rally, protest or something in the next few weeks, and I will make it a point to find out WHO slammed the Brakes on the Bill in the Senate and Who stopped this dead in it’s tracks. It is far past time to hold our legislators responsible and accountable for their inactions and their inability to properly represent the People of Western New York. We need your help top continue this battle

The death threats have not stopped me, the threats to burn down my hose have not stopped me and neither have the intimidation tactics. WE WILL WIN and these TOLLS WILL COME DOWN.

By the way……… Where is LOUISE SLAUGHTER? or Who is she? Do we have ANY Federal Representation in Grand Island Buffalo and Niagara Falls? This is HER district, this is not part of Brian Higgins. What has she done? NOTHING.
