I think we need to send the Gov a message, maybe he has not heard from enough of us because he has been no where to be found on this Grand Island Toll issue. Click here and send him one now.

They always put off controversial things until after the elections, like pay raises, fee/tax increases…. What about the tolls and the thruway authority?

Legislature cruising to end of session

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - There’s a month left in the legislative session, and lawmakers have unprecedented conflict behind them and elections ahead of them.

Now, they’re quietly talking about putting off the remaining thorny issues until after the November elections.

On Tuesday, Governor Paterson held his last in a series of closed-door meetings with legislative conferences. And as with the Senate’s Republican majority, his meeting with the Assembly’s Democratic majority was full of jokes and pledges to work together while putting the clashes with former Governor Spitzer behind them.

Lobbyists and lawmakers say several issues are getting less than urgent attention. For instance — reform of industrial development agencies that dispense millions of dollars in tax breaks to companies promising jobs. Also, strengthening “brownfield” legislation to clean up polluted industrial sites for redevelopment, and awarding a franchise to run video slot machines at Aqueduct race track.
