The Republican County Executives in a host of counties oppose the cap, saying it has not done anything to prices but go to the oil companies and hurt local governments' revenue streams.  The Republican Executives of Chautauqua and Onondaga Counties, for instance have retracted support for the cap.  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has similarly renounced the concept of a cap.  And Republican-led county legislatures across the state have consistently rejected the cap since it was first offered in 2006 (including Niagara County).

The simple fact is, oil companies are getting richer, and consumers and retailers are suffering.</description>
