NY plans state job recruiting despite governor's order

Monday, April 28th, 2008

This is the unions sticking a finger in Paterson’s face basically telling him that we will do what ever we want to do because we are in charge. I can imagine the Democrat controlled Assembly will let them too, after all they are owned.

The unions do not care if they drive us right into the economic abyss and are never able to get out as long as they get what they want, and that is to screw the taxpayers of this state.

NY plans state job recruiting despite governor’s order
ALBANY, N.Y. -

At the same time Gov. David Paterson is ordering agencies to restrict hiring during tough fiscal times, the state is preparing for targeted recruitment to replace thousands of mid- and upper-management employees expected to retire in the next five years.

Civil Service Commissioner Nancy Groenwegen said it’s not a conflict, but a necessity. The hiring is to head off a projected shortage of critical workers, especially high demand positions like nurses, engineers, accountants, auditors and information technology specialists.

Silver Urged To Debate His Challengers

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Silver should debate but I doubt he will. He will simply ignore any challenge thereby keeping the media attention away. But, I hope the media hounds Silver everywhere he goes and make him respond.

Silver Urged To Debate His Challengers

A liberal political activist group connected to the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, is trying to persuade Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to debate his two Democratic primary challengers next month.

The 64-year-old legislator, a trial lawyer by trade who has not faced a primary opponent for his state Assembly seat in more than two decades, does not appear to be interested. A campaign spokesman suggested that the speaker might be willing to debate his opponents, an attorney from the East Village, Luke Henry, and a former AIDS awareness organizer from the Lower East Side, Paul Newell, at a later date closer to the September election.

Amherst Democratic Committee Endorsement Vote Results

iannello-ward.JPG

First congratulations to Jon Powers on his endorsement from the Amherst Democrats. But wow, Dan Ward gets it over his sister-in-law Iannello/Ward. But I understand she withdrew her name. I can imagine how sad it would look if Dan lost to her, after all isn’t Dan a councilman there? Purely political move by both of them.

The Amherst Times » Blog Archive » Subj: Amherst Democratic Committee Endorsement Vote Results

On Wednesday evening, April 23, the Amherst Democratic Committee voted on its endorsements for the offices of Member of the House of Representatives from New York’s 26th Congressional district, and of Member of the State Senate from the 61st district. Each committeeperson who voted received a number of votes equal to the number of votes that Eliot Spitzer earned for Governor on the Democratic line in 2006 in the election precinct that the committeeperson represents.

The final tally of votes in the endorsement for Member of the House of Representatives was as follows:

National Anthem ~ Awesome

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I caught this version of the National Anthem over at Redstate. Awesome, simply awesome.

Before you watch this video, read this. This was recorded at a Texas Tech basketball game on February 9, 2008.

These young ladies are between the ages of 6 and 8 years old. Once you hear them sing this song, it’ll never sound the same again.

And listen to the crowd, a packed field house, and not a sound…you could have heard a pin drop.

As. Schroeder, Sen. Maziarz abolish the Thruway Authority

NoGITolls.com joins in with Assemblyman Schroeder and Senator Maziarz in call to eliminate New York State Thruway Authority

Assemblyman Mark Schroeder, a Buffalo-area Democrat, said he’s pushing a bill that would abolish the Thruway Authority.

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, said the decision results in increases of 45 percent over five years. He said reform of the system is needed.

“This unwarranted toll increase is a slap in the face to the hard-working residents of Western New York,” Higgins said. “The Thruway Authority has created a fictional budget hole as a means to justify a toll increase that pads their already bloated bureaucratic pockets.”

New law overlaps old law

see-no-evil.jpg

So in 06 Iannello was surprised to find this Law? Why sit on it for so long? She should have moved on it when she surprisingly found it. Could it be that it is all in the timing, everything that is done by the Democrats in the legislature is timed, timed for either their re-election or their pursuit of higher paying office.

In this surprising Law county employees reap cash benefits for finding ways to cut costs for the county taxpayers. It should be the responsibility of every county employee to do just that for their own job security and as a personal commitment to save us all money. I get sick of dumping money into programs like this.

Tonawanda News – ERIE COUNTY: New law overlaps old law

Al Hammonds, Erie County’s director of Six Sigma implementation, is taking a hard look at how the county can get employees involved in the program, and existing legislation might have already set up a framework for that plan.

Erie County Legislator Michele Iannello, D-Kenmore, said she encountered a surprise when she took office in 2006 and wanted to propose legislation that would bring employee suggestions for cost savings before some sort of review committee. A similar law had been passed in 2004 that should have created a review committee to look over suggestions.

“The outgoing administration was supposed to propose a way to get this done and they never did,” Iannello said.

Now that County Executive Chris Collins has taken the reigns and started his Six Sigma program, that law has come back into the light.

Thruway Tolls Going Up Again

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

tolls.jpg

This is a good article and with the calls from Assemblyman Mark Schroeder and Brian Higgins to abolish the Thruway Authority altogether is the best move they could make.

The tolls were supposed to be gone across the entire thruway in 1996, it was the legislature at that time and former Gov Cuomo that made the move in the early 90 to sell the thruway again for an influx of cash to bail out the states financial woes. Government like to use one time cash gimmicks to help one time budgets but all that ever does is push off the inevitable.

The time has never been so ripe than to make the move to finally abolish the thruway authority. Thank you Mark and Brian. My biggest question is….. WHERE IS LOUISE SLAUGHTER? MIA IN WNY.

Thruway Tolls Going Up Again

The toll increases could not come at a much worse time considering gas prices and the cost of just about everything is skyrocketing, but the Thruway Authority insists it needs the additional revenue because it’s been saddled with a billion dollars of non-thruway expenses. So, Friday afternoon five of six Thruway Authority board members voted in favor of the new toll hikes.

EZ Pass users — say goodbye to many of the discounts your now getting. They disappear starting in July. Come January, drivers who pay in cash will feel the hit when tolls go up five percent. That will be followed by a second five percent increase in January 2010. All this comes on the heels of a ten percent hike that went into effect earlier this year.

Lead Paint Levels Close North Park Library Branch

Friday, April 25th, 2008

north park library

I just have to question this… Was there lead dust floating in the air? How come this hasn’t been discovered before this? People buying homes have to test their houses for lead paint. Is this another thing that fell through the cracks? Or is this just a bunch of crap and an excuse to have a union contractor come in and charge millions to remove the lead paint to protect the children.

Lead Paint Levels Close North Park Library Branch

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) – The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library announced Friday the North Park Library branch has been temporarily closed because of lead paint levels.

Director Bridget Quinn-Carey says the decision to close was strictly precautionary. She says the highest elevated levels are confined to window areas of the library enclosed in plastic, away from any access to patrons or staff.

Thruway Approves Toll Hikes

Albany, NY (WBEN) – The state Thruway Authority has voted to approve a new round of toll hikes that would start this summer.

The plan is to phase in a pair of 5 percent hikes for those paying cash at the toll booths and what amounts to an increase as high as 28 percent for some drivers who use the EZ-Pass electronic toll collecting system.

The hikes would begin in July and continue through January 2010. They would come on top of a 10 percent increase that took effect this year.

N.Y. Orders Large Web Retailers To Charge Tax

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Here they come again, the insatiable blob New York state government. If you have a penny we want it, empty your pockets.

N.Y. Orders Large Web Retailers To Charge Tax

State Estimates New Rule Will Bring In $50 Million In 2008

NEW YORK (CBS) ? New York Internet shoppers, take note: in five weeks, sales tax-free shopping will end on many Web sites thanks to rewritten state rules that are trying to force Internet retailers to collect.

At Chrono Tech Watches in White Plains, Jerry Nally is glad the clock is ticking on many Internet retailers that don’t charge New York sales tax. Nally says those so-called “e-tailers” steal his customers.
