I hope this catches on and spreads around the country like wild fire. These guys pay more taxes to drive on roads than we will in a lifetime. From tolls to fuel taxes to highway use taxes, fuel use tax per state, etc…. We all end up paying in everything we buy. Over the Road truckers and independent operators get hit the hardest, everything they pay comes out of their pockets. Their rates per mile rarely rise to meet the ever increasing demands of governments across the country use them and us as a bottom less pit of cash.

Fed Up With Diesel Fuel Costs, Truckers Protest

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — More than 100 truckers and others are rallying on the steps of the Pennsylvania Capitol asking lawmakers to cut state taxes on their fuel, and nationwide there are others calling for a day of boycott to emphasize their plight.

The rising oil prices have caused diesel prices to skyrocket, surpassing the cost of regular gas. And truckers, dependent on the fuel, are feeling the pinch.

“We need some help. We move America. We bring you all the things you’re used to buying,” says trucker Dan Waltenbaugh, who says the truckers are at the end of their rope, in some cases paying $1,000 or more to fill up, compared to a few hundred dollars last year.

Waltenbaugh organized a protest to try to get Pennsylvania to eliminate its highest-in-the-nation diesel fuel tax of 38.1 cents per gallon.

Truckers around the country have been talking about a strike as high diesel prices and low freight rates have pushed an increasing number of truckers into bankruptcy.

CBS reports you may see some of them pulling over to the sides of area highways or driving below the speed limit. The truckers are hoping their actions will gain the attention of lawmakers in Capitol Hill

In Pennsylvania, meanwhile, some truckers have been driving around the Capitol and honking their horns.

Protest organizer Mark Kirsch says truckers are being squeezed by the high cost of diesel fuel at the same time consumers face higher prices for gasoline and home heating oil.

State taxes amount to 32 cents a gallon for gasoline and 38 cents a gallon for diesel.

The state says it needs the tax revenue to repair roads and bridges
