Well it looks like Jack Davis has a real challenger on his hands with Jon Powers. And look who came back from D.C. to buy votes…. The ever missing from WNY Slaughter of the innocence. She is never in this end of the district, I wonder if she could even find Grand Island on a map.
Powers, Dollinger win endorsements
Congressional candidate Jon Powers, a Democrat from Clarence, Erie County, won 74 percent of the vote of Greece Democratic committee members on Thursday, ensuring the endorsement of the Monroe County Democratic Committee. The Greece committee also endorsed former state Sen. Rick Dollinger for state Senate over Brighton Supervisor Sandra Frankel and Rochester school board member Willa Powell.
Greece Democrats held a joint meeting with their counterparts in Parma, who also chose Powers and Dollinger.
The race for the Democratic endorsement is not over in the 56th Senate District, but it is over in the 26th Congressional District, the district being vacated by Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-Clarence.
Greece Democratic Leader Jo Meleca-Voigt said committee members in towns that have not held endorsement votes should participate in the process, even though another candidate cannot catch up to Powers.
Powers has won every county Democratic committee in the district so far. Only county committees in Monroe and Erie have not yet endorsed anyone.
Powers is vying for the Democratic nomination against retired lawyer Alice Kryzan of Amherst and industrialist Jack Davis of Akron.
Slaughter touts her legislation
Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, was in town Thursday to promote legislation she introduced last month that would create a $20 million fund for cleaning up waterfront brownfields.
The Waterfront Brownfields Revitalization Act would provide up to $500,000 per project that could be applied as needed, rather than limited for a specific purpose.
“These old industrial areas … that made our cities what they are, left behind a residue,” Slaughter said, standing at the end of Flint Street, along a 60-acre tract fronting the Genesee River that once was home to the Vacuum Oil Co. refinery.
