I am very surprised by this report and will try and confirm this myself.
Congressman Tom Reynolds Calling It A Wrap?
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - There are strong indications that five-term Republican Congressman Tom Reynolds of Clarence will not be running for a sixth term and is expected to formally announce so Thursday.
The Buffalo News and The Niagara Gazette are both citing sources within the Republican party that suggest Reynolds will announce later today that he will not be a candidate for re-election.
Reynolds has scheduled a news conference for later today and there is no confirmation from his staff about his intentions. His campaign website remains online, and it says there to expect a campaign update “in early 2008″. Reynolds currently has $1,016,846 in campaign funds according to Federal Elections Commission reports reviewed by WBEN, when asked about his future plans he has remained coy in recent weeks.
During his terms in Congress, he has been a political powerhouse, close to the top of the Republican party brass, chairing the party’s national congressional campaign committee and coordinating races nationwide.
Reynolds is the only ranking member of the House Ways and Means from New York State, on Congress’s important budget and spending committee. A former State Assemblyman and member of the Erie County Legislature, Reynolds served as Erie County Republican Chairman from 1990-1996.
