On October 20th, 2007 I posted this thread and there were 23 comments left on it and I was left wondering, was it the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem or what.
Obama: No Hand on Heart for Pledge Either — Will MSM Notice?
Well I ran into this You Tube clip and as you can see up above the rest of the candidates were holding their hand over their heart and Obama is the only one not. There is a a US code: Title 36,301. National anthem… See below.
US CODE: Title 36,301. National anthem
§ 301. National anthem
(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
Now watch the whole clip here
Now, this is my all time favorite rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. In this clip all the Military members are saluting, Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr and the rest have their hands over their heart. It is simply a show of respect to do so.
Enjoy this one.

Rus, when you did your first post on the topic, I spun off with a post of my own, gathering 39 replies (an counting)

In my post I included: §171. Conduct during playing The Star-Spangled Banner and §172. Pledge of allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery. Whereas both state the right hand is to be over your heart.
At any point, how can we elect a person as our next American President if he hasn’t the repect to honor the values of our American Flag?

I agree Fedup…
It all boils down to character, the character of a Leader.
Leaders is what this country is seriously lacking.
Granted there’s more to America than the symbolism of our flag, yet this flag, the flag of which we sing “was still there” is what’s helped us to stand the test of time.
Stars & Stripes, red, white & blue… people have died for that symbolism of a free America. Coming home from WWII, or rising up from the ashes at Ground Zero, “our flag was still there”.
For a Presidential Candidate to not stand with his hand over his heart, he’s (to me) spitting in the faces of all those who’ve had a family member come home with the symbolism of the very same flag draped over their coffin.
