Disclaimer….. This came to me via email and I just had to post it with all the comments made by the emailer, they are not mine. I do however agree with them and also want to add that Hoyt, Spitzer, Clinton, Schumer and most of the other Democrats in this state are convinced that government is always the answer. But we have proven by far that this state and region are at the bottom of most of the lists when it comes to good things and at the top of the list in bad things via taxes, business friendly, utility costs, education etc, blah, blah blah….. So what is their answer? more and more government being more and more involved in every single aspect of not only our lives but education and businesses…. All of which by the way are the most expensive in the country.
And where are we this year in this years budget? In the tank and falling into the abyss with debt totaling $12,000 per man woman and child in this state. What is their answer? more government, higher fees, higher taxes and more intrusions into our business. Then they wonder why people just continue to leave.
Another Voice / Governor’s budget
School aid still substantial in Spitzer proposal
By Sam Hoyt
It took doomsayers just 48 hours following Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer’s announcement of a record $1.46 billion increase in school education funding to pull out the rusty old knives and begin tearing at the seams of what will be a very important budget for Western New Yorkers. I am referring to Rod Watson’s Jan. 24 column.
Understand that 20 percent of all New York State’s revenues come from Wall Street, and that the state faces a $4.5 billion deficit that continues to grow. Tough times require tough choices. Aspects of the governor’s 2008-09 funding proposal were slightly scaled back, but major education and economic growth initiatives exceed even the 2007-08 budget’s historic levels of funding in these same areas.
Watson refers to commitments made by the governor regarding school funding increases and then attempts to link him to other elected officials who have gone back on a pledge.
Former President George H. W. Bush promised “no new taxes” and then promptly taxed us. President Bush promised to find Osama bin Laden and has thus far failed.
(Does Mr. Hoyt know that Pakistan will not allow our troops to enter his country to go after Mr. bin Laden?? If Hoyt is so brilliant, why doesn’t he tell our nation how to get him??) Spitzer, on the other hand, vowed to invest in our children’s education and is doing just that. (”Invest” in our children’s educations, or invest in the fat pension plan the New York State teacher’s enjoy when they retire in their early to mid 50’s???)
What Watson also does not tell his readers is that this governor’s school aid for the new fiscal year continues to set unprecedented funding levels, even though New York is mired in a national economic slump brought on by the spend-and-borrow economic policies of the Bush administration. Despite the downturn, foundation aid in our governor’s new budget is up 6.6 percent, universal prekindergarten is up $79 million from last year and healthy school initiatives are up $9 million. No governor has worked harder to fight for New York public schools than Spitzer. (Mr. Hoyt, you mean the TEACHER’S UNION MEMBERS !!)
Along with the governor’s announcement of a record-breaking education funding increase is an unprecedented proposal aimed at pumping $1 billion into the upstate economy, through his Upstate Revitalization Fund. This will include a critical $115 million in investments to Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and other upstate cities for job creation and economic growth. (I do hope Spitzer does better than Hillary !! She PROMISED us 200,000 jobs with her “secret plan”, and all we in upstate New York have done is watch TAXES rise and JOBS flee the region!!)
It is the broken promises of past elected officials that left upstate behind the economic eight-ball, not this governor. (BROKEN PROMISES like those of Hillary Clinton for example Mr. Hoyt?) Spitzer has combined the strategy of appointing an upstate economic development czar with the financial tools to deliver the jobs for upstate. No governor has worked harder for upstate.
Despite the rhetoric, the taxpayer has not been forgotten. This year’s budget from the governor holds the line on taxes and increases funding for the STAR program by $134 million. (”Santa Spitzer” is increasing the deficit over 4 BILLION….that is billion with a “B”, and still finding a way to cut taxes?? My my Mr. Hoyt, isn’t that amazing??!!)
Spitzer’s budget is a starting point: now the Legislature will go to work refining it. As the budget process begins, I will do everything in my power working with my colleagues in the Legislature along with our governor to ensure my constituents and the people of Western New York receive a final budget that is fair and fiscally prudent. (All a BUNCH OF BULL. This guy is a “tax & spend”…..”buy their votes” LIBERAL if there ever was one….and how they love him in his district, because they LOVE PAYING TAXES I guess??)

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI need to get a NYS Union Job!!!
Spitzer also calls for pulling 92 NY State Troopers out of their respective schools as School Resource Officers. Isn’t is proactive to have them working with students now so that maybe they won’t be future criminals. Its being Proactive not Reactive. Not a good idea Elliot
