If we are ever to move forward this issue must get behind us. Spitzer at one point said he would testify under oath. What has happened to that vow? If he sits back and tries to cover up any and all responsibility. or continues to deny, deny, deny. We will go no where especially in the budget process that is in process now.

Darren Dopp: Gov. Spitzer approved Joe Bruno records release

ALBANY - Troopergate figure Darren Dopp testified before a state ethics panel that he got Gov. Spitzer’s okay just before releasing state police records on Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno last June, the Daily News has learned.

Dopp, the governor’s ex-communications director, also testified he told top Spitzer aide Richard Baum and chief counsel David Nocenti before passing along the records cited in a July 1 newspaper story, which suggested Republican Bruno broke rules for using state aircraft, sources said.

The sworn private testimony before the Public Integrity Commission came in November.

Senate Investigations Chairman George Winner (R-Elmira) said the new information about Dopp’s testimony “confirms that the governor has not been forthcoming about what he knew and when he knew it.”

The commission has yet to subpoena the governor. Spitzer spokesman Errol Cockfield said the governor is willing to testify.

Dopp said under oath that he got the governor’s consent before sending the records to an Albany Times Union reporter, sources familiar with his testimony said.

On July 25, when asked by The News Editorial Board whether he directed the effort to tarnish Bruno, Spitzer replied, “Absolutely not.”

However, he has deflected questions on whether he authorized the release of the records, which Attorney General Andrew Cuomo found was a misuse of the state police.
