What kind of oversight do we have at the DMV anyway? Kathy Hochul needs to keep an eye on her people. This girl had the guts just to do it, no question so this tells me that oversight is pretty lax here.
DMV clerk charged with providing fake ID
BUFFALO, N.Y. - An auto bureau clerk is accused of selling fake identification to teenagers while on the job.
Latasha Colbert, 24, was arrested last week after agreeing to change the birth date on an undercover officer’s driver’s license from 1989 to 1986 for $100, plus the $10 Department of Motor Vehicles fee, prosecutors said Monday.
Colbert is also suspected of altering identifications for two teenagers, ages 14 and 19, for $50 each so they could dance at strip clubs and work in casinos. Those photo IDs were never delivered after investigators received a tip about the transactions and intervened, the Erie County District Attorney’s office said.
“Protecting children from such illegal acts is the most important outcome of this investigation,” said Inspector General Kristine Hamann, whose office joined the state Department of Motor Vehicles, state police and Erie County Clerk’s office in investigating Colbert.
Colbert was fired last week from her part-time job at the Erie County Auto Bureau in Buffalo, where she had worked for about six years. All of her work is now under review.
She was arraigned Saturday in Buffalo City Court and held on $1,500 cash bail. She is due back in court Feb. 13 to face several felony charges, including bribery, tampering with public records and criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Colbert could receive up to seven years in prison if convicted.
