UNFRIKIN BELIEVABLE. This guy has lost his mind.
Gov. Spitzer is apparently playing the part of Gov. Pander once again - this time, inviting unions to be co- managers at government agencies in devising plans to protect workers from violence on the job.
Spitzer, it seems, wants to give the unions that role even if it means paralyzing the agencies themselves - and possibly endangering the workers (not to mention, the public).
It’s no exaggeration: Under new rules from Spitzer’s Department of Labor, city, county and state agencies will have to give workers’ “representatives” - that is, labor unions - a big say in crafting plans to prevent “workplace violence.”
The rules also broaden the definition of “violence” to include, well . . . nearly everything - thus handing government employees a powerful new tool with which to hurl complaints at their bosses.
The unions, of course, love it.
But cities, counties and local agencies across the state are furious.
They’re warning that the regulations are unmanageable, actually “increase the risk of crime and workplace violence” to employees and put average citizens at risk, as well.
Indeed, the New York Conference of Mayors, the New York State Associa tion of Counties, New York City, Nassau County and numerous government agencies have all gone on record, warning about the danger of the new rules.
It wasn’t enough, it seems, that Spitzer’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens prompted county clerks across the state to threaten open defiance.
Now he’s angered mayors, county execs, commissioners and other officials at every level of government - with some even threatening to sue.
It all started with a 2006 law - itself, a giveaway to the unions - that sought to impose rules on government agencies, ostensibly to protect employees from violence they may encounter on the job.
