He did not appoint the people that run the Thruway Authority so he is can do nothing????? He is the Governor, he is supposed to be the top man, the head cheese the big boss. What a crock and dung.
Listen to this report from Barbara Burns from WBEN
Who’s the Boss? Them?
So much of what he said is so wrong. We cannot allow the authorities to run this state any longer.
Spitzer On Thruway Toll Hike: Wait And See
We will do everything we can to keep that toll bill as low as possible, mindful of the need to invest in our infrastructure and to expand and maintain the Thruway”
— Gov. Eliot Spitzer
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - New York State Gov. Eliot Spitzer says he understands the outrage over a plan to raise New York State Thruway tolls, but during a stop in Buffalo Monday he said he is virtually powerless to intervene, especially before the state comptroller finishses an audit of Thruway Authority revenue and spending.
The authority has proposed a series of toll increases, raising them by 5 percent in 2009 and again in 2010. The increases would be in addition to the 10-percent increase in cash rates that begins in January. Users of E-ZPass, the electronic toll collecting system, would see smaller increases.
Authority officials said the increases are needed because spiking gas prices are limiting travel, and that is cutting revenue needed for its $2.1 billion highway and bridge repair plan.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHe also said that people have to realize (read accept) the necessary cost of investing in our Thruway system. Didn’t even bother to address the fact that our investment brokers need to be evaluated for mismanagement, or complete dereliction of duty. One only needs to look around and see (and feel) pothole-ridden roads to know it’s a pathetic portfolio.
just for giggles lets play out no tolls.nysta brings in 700million,half of that pays for debt[canals,i84,ect]the rest salaries and maintance.subtract toll collector paychecks some management and some other misc jobs with salaries, savin mabey50 million.thats still300million which is needed for salt, fuel, lawnmowers, trucks drivers and everything else it takes to keep a road open.who pays that ??you and me ,with no help from grandma in jersey orthe trash trucks from nyc.
How about the 400 million from the Feds in Highway reimbursement from fuel taxes. That is just ONE source. If you have read any of the posts on tolls you would see 100’s of millions from other taxes.
