It is really appalling that Hoyt and Maziarz claim not to have known about this and all the other perks with the toll workers etal… Most of this info has been in NoGItolls.com since February. I had Press conferences focusing on all of this too. Email blasts to the senators and assemblymen… Just goes to show you that they respond to nothing but the Buffalo News?
And the Buffalo News? They have written one article about the drive to eliminate the tolls until this weekend. I guess their the ultimate authority around here.
NYS Lawmakers Want Stop to No-Toll Perk for Thruway Authority Workers
(Grand Island, NY, November 14, 2007) - - A new toll battle is shifting in to high gear Wednesday night. Two lawmakers say it’s time to curb the no-toll perk for thruway authority workers. News 4’s George Richert reports near the south Grand Island bridge with our big story tonight.
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, “Every little bit adds up.”
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt says before the State Thruway Authority asks to raise the price of tolls again, they need to stop the practice of giving thruway authority workers free E-Z Passes.
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, “I understand it’s somewhere between 100 and $200,000 and maybe that’ menas $50 per employee but it seems to me like a perk that’s above and beyond and unneccesary.”
He and State Senator George Maziarz are co-sponsoring a bill to stop the free ride.
State Senator George Maziarz, “I have to tell you, that the first time was in the Buffalo News on Sunday that I think a whole lotta Western New York legislators found out that NY Thruway Authority employees not only get free EZ Pass for personal use, but get it for life. That’s absurd! Ridiculous.”
But if it’s written in their contract, would it be hard to change.
State Senator George Maziarz, “It may be hard to change but you’ve gotta start somewhere so let’s get it outta their contract.”
