Seems to me from all that I have heard on this issue is that there was no contractor here locally that could do the work because they were required to abide by the apprenticeship Law.. Remember that Law that was passed last year? Yup same one that this class voted for including Iannello, Kennedy, Marinelli, Whyte, etal… This job and the requirement of that asinine Law cost us more than the local jobs, it also carried a price tag of 400 grand more. Thank you Erie County Legislature.
These people are so indebted to the unions it is costing us jobs and money. They have their pockets and campaign war chests filled with union dues and I can’t raise money to compete. So are we stuck with the same class this next year? Nov 6th will tell us now won’t it.
The Buffalo News: Everybody’s Column: Out-of-town contractors bring in own work force
n the Oct. 6 article about the project at the Erie County Correctional Facility, what was never mentioned is that Flower City Glass is an out-of-town contractor that brings in its own work force. The same scope of work is being performed at the State Correctional Facility by a contractor from Kentucky, which brings in its own work force from the South.
Apparently the Public Works Department, Associated Builders and Contractors and Legislator Michael Ranzenhofer do not read The News or watch the television about the mass exodus of our youths from Western New York because there are not enough local jobs for local people.
As business agent of Ironworkers Local No. 6, I am continually sending our trained work force all over the country in search of jobs. The work that they are trained for in a four-year apprentice training program is being done right here in Western New York by a work force that has no interest but to take taxpayers’ money back to where they come from.
This issue should not be presented as union versus nonunion, or glazier versus ironworker.
