If lawmakers don’t reach agreement, Marinelli says that could mean cuts.

First of all the only time they ever speak of cuts is when there is a possible fiscal crisis. We shouldn’t have to wonder why we are always so close to a fiscal meltdown. NOTHING changes, none of the majority does anything to even look at cutting the cost and size of government.

I think they are avoiding allowing the control board borrowing because they fear the adults will be here longer than they want. Once again the children are still trying to run the house, when is the last time you knew of any child handling money properly?

BUFFALO, NY (2007-10-12) Erie County lawmakers took no action Thursday on a measure needed to guarantee crucial revenues that will be included in the the administration’s proposed 2008 budget next week.

Chairwoman Lynn Marinelli proposed a resolution that would have allowed the Fiscal Stability authority to do county borrowing. That’s the only way the control board will approve the county’s tax lien sale. But by a vote of 11 to 4, the measure was sent to the finance committee, which doesn’t meet until Tuesday. That means the county executive’s budget due Monday will have a six million dollar hole.

If lawmakers don’t reach agreement, Marinelli says that could mean cuts.

Erie County Comptroller Mark Pollancarz says the tax lien money is speculative revenue. Still, he says more information on the borrowing costs are expected soon from the state. So he says it makes sense for lawmakers to wait — but not too long.
