Driving a hundred miles per hour is bad enough but being high and going that fast… Not good. Must be nice to have 20 grand cash to bail someone out of jail.

Al Gore’s son bailed out with $20,000 cash
Al Gore III was driving 100 mph on the freeway near Crown Valley Parkway, sheriff’s deputies say

Al Gore’s son was released from the Orange County Jail at 2 p.m. today, after a young man and woman posted his $20,000 bail in cash, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.

“Some people were saying it was his sister, but I don’t know if that’s true,” Amormino said.

Al Gore III, the 24-year-old son of ex-Vice President Al Gore, was arrested early this morning on suspicion of possession of marijuana and controlled substances, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Al Gore III told deputies that he was on his way to San Diego when he was pulled over for going 100 mph on the southbound Interstate 5 near the Crown Valley exit.

Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said that deputies stopped Gore’s blue hybrid Toyota Prius at 2:15 a.m. and smelled marijuana when they approached the car. A search revealed numerous small quantities of prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Xanex, Valium and Soma, he said.

“He did not have a prescription for any of these dangerous drugs,” Amormino said.

Gore, a resident of Los Angeles, was driving alone in the car, Amormino said. He cooperated with deputies and acknowledged he was the son of the former vice president.

He was booked on $20,000 bail. He faces arraignment within 30 days, the deputy said. His Prius was impounded.

The Gore family could not be reached for comment.

The son of the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee also was pulled over and arrested for pot possession in December 2003, in Bethesda, Md., while he was a student at Harvard University.

He completed substance abuse counseling as part of a pretrial diversion program to settle those charges.

The youngest of Al and Tipper Gore’s four children and their only son, Gore lives in Los Angeles and is an associate publisher of GOOD, a magazine about philanthropy aimed at young people.
