So we pay another $10 Million to build something else in Brunos district. Isn’t that special. While Western New York suffers with failing economies, loss of jobs, college grads leaving, we pay commuter taxes just to get to and from work. Bruno and Silver take care of their districts with our money.

Our representation in Albany is useless. I still say split the state in half.

GE to build new facility in Rensselaer County

Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno said, “They made a positive decision to stay here in upstate and build these new pieces of equipment.”

Senator Bruno is talking about General Electric’s decision to build a new $135 million facility at the Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush. The center will make state-of-the art digital X-ray mammography machines.

GE Global Research Sr. VP and Dir. Mark Little said, “Very, very high technology. It will be clean rooms like we have at the research center to develop new products and great products for our customers.”

Senator Bruno has committed a $10 million state capital grant to invest in the construction of the new plant. Bruno said this facility is part of “Upstate Now” — a job creation and economic growth plan the Senate passed Tuesday. He said this project couldn’t have happened without the help of so many people.

“The combination that is here is what is responsible for what is in the Capital Region, whether it is political, academic, professional — it is a partnership,” said Bruno.

Senator Hugh Farley of Niskayuna said, “The Governor made a big deal about turning Appalachia into a wonderful place. We’ve got the road map right here.”

Bruno said construction will begin this fall, with an opening in 2008. He’s expecting the project will bring 150 new jobs, but that’s a far cry from GE’s glory days when the company employed tens of thousands of workers here in the Capital Region.
