Fallen Trooper Remembered

David Brinkerhoff was remembered today as a good-natured person who was devoted ot his family and loved serving the New York State Police.

Several hundred relatives and law enforcement officers filled the suburban Albany church where funeral services were held for the fallen trooper.

A church pastor recalled how the Hamburg native enjoyed the tough training he went through to earn a spot on the state police Mobile Response Team. Brinkerhoff’s brother Michael told mourners how everyone who met his younger sibling was taken in by his kindness and great sense of humor.

Others who spoke at the funeral praised Brinkerhoff for his devotion to his wife Barbara and their infant daughter Isabella, who was born with Down SYndrome.

Thousands of law enforcement officers stood in ranks outside the church during the funeral.

State police officials have said Brinkerhoff apparently was hit by a bullet fired by one of the other members of his MRT unit as they exchanged gunfire with shooting suspect Travis Trim inside a Delaware County home one week ago today.

Another trooper was wounded, and Trim’s body was found hours later inside the fire-damaged home.

A local memorial service for Brinkerhoff is scheduled for Friday.
