Friendly Fire Killed Trooper

A bizarre and tragic fact has come out related to the story we broke here on April 24, 2007. As the New York State Police elite Mobile Response Team was entering the vacation home suspect Travis Trim was hiding in, this sad tale was about to unfold.

A manhunt had been ongoing from the previous day, Trim had shot a trooper during a routine traffic stop. He apparently used a small caliber bullet, the trooper was not wounded, his body armour had saved his life. Trim fled in a mini-van which he abandoned 1 mile from the site of the initial shooting.

Police from three counties searched for Trim the entire night, the entire end of the county was cordoned off with two police cars at each intersection, but had not found him when an burglar alarm was tripped at 7:15 AM at a vacation home. It was later learned that the home was owned by a retired State Trooper.
