While Sam is there with the thruway authority announcing free internet service I wonder if he will say anything about the tolls? No, he won’t… While almost 6000 people are fighting to get rid of the tolls Sam and Iannello/Ward are fighting to keep them.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI realize that paying a toll to go to your house is a pain, but dont residents of Grand Island pay a reduced toll? I thought it was something like $0.09 as opposed to $0.75 that everyone else pays? I could be mistaken.
the point is the traffic congestion and the promise of removing the tolls when everything was paid for in the 50’s.
They like to use the arguement that the tolls pay for the maintenance of the bridges but I have already proven we lose money on the tolls. It cost over 3 million a year to just pay for the toll takers. That equeals out to be over 25,000 cars a day just to pay the toll takers.
Have you read how much they make and how much they get in benefits? Free ezpass, tuition for 15 credit hours paid in advance 90%
Read the FOIL and everything else I have written. http://nogitolls.com
All well and good, but how much do you, as a resident of Grand Island, pay when you cross the bridge?
As for toll taker benefits, a friend of the family recently died of a rare lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to diesel fumes. While he wasnt a toll taker (he worked for customs), the same risks exist for toll takers. Shouldnt they get more than $7 per hour with no benefits?
Best thing to eliminate the health hazards is to eliminate the tolls across the country. Health hazard eliminated.
The job as a toll taker is worth at best 10 an hour. Get kids like yourself that need jobs to get through college. With a job like that pensions, tuition, free ezpass, sick days, vacations, etc…….. do not need to be paid by people who use the roads.
If tolls were needed to maintain bridges why isn’t there a toll at every bridge? Why is their no toll at the Skyway?
I pay 9 cents. The money is not the point.
