This is disgusting… We need permission to allow our children to take asprin to school, we need permission for our children to be cared for in a situation when they are injured at school and taken to a hospital. But, the Democrats in congress want to allow abortions for minors without parental consent and or notification…. sic…..
Senate Kills Child Custody Act
The bill that would make it a crime to take a minor girl across state lines to get an abortion passed both the house and the senate, but was blocked by Illinois’ Dick Durban. The senate fell three votes short of the sixty votes needed to override the block. Douglas Johnson of National Right to Life responds.
“Senate Democratic leadership had been obstructing this parental notification legislation for months and, regrettably, in the end they did kill it.â€
Eight Democrats that had originally voted for the bill flip-flopped and were joined by four Republican senators in voting against the override. The outcome flies in the face of public opinion.
“Well the polls commonly show 75 up to 83-percent in support of laws to require that a parent be notified or even give consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter.â€
Democrats Kill Parental-Rights Bill as Senate Session Adjourns
Senate Majority Bill Frist did all he could to bring Senate Bill 403 to a vote before that chamber adjourned this session — but a cloture vote on the Child Custody Protection Act fell three votes short on Friday, falling victim again to Democratic-led efforts to prevent the bill from being sent along to the White House. (See earlier article) Frist had hoped the procedural move would force a vote on a bill that the Senate had passed earlier on a 65-34 vote — and the House had passed 264-153 — but his filing of cloture required at least 60 votes. On Friday, he could only muster 57; fifty-one Republicans and six Democrats (see roll call vote).
How did our senators vote?
New York: Clinton (D-NY), Nay Schumer (D-NY), Nay

Are you that mentally challenged Adam……?
Here let me talk louder for you…
A MINOR LIKE YOUR DAUGHTER CAN BE TAKEN ACROSS STATE LINES TO HAVE AN ABORTION WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE, CONSENT OR PERMISSION AND THAT IS OK WITH YOU?
(PSSST… a minor is a child under 18)
HOW MUCH CONTROL DO YOU NEED OVER YOUR CHILD’S LIFE? If she is able to bear children, (according to her creator she’s an adult), then she should be able to make her own decisions regarding her own body.
So you actually think you should be able to FORCE your daughter AGAINST HER WILL to have a child she doesnt want to have by denying your consent or permission?!?!?
Your daughter, no matter what her age, is her own person, not your personal grandchild making machine.
By the way, no doctor is going to give a girl an abortion if she doesnt want one.
I find the phrase “YOUR DAUGHTER CAN BE TAKEN ACROSS STATE LINES TO HAVE AN ABORTION” misleading…as if she is being taken across the boarder against her will….
This is a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate girls who have gotten pregnant and dont want to carry the pregancy to term, by making them ask for permission for an abortion…its not the parent’s decision to make.
So you don’t even want the ability to advise her? It’s not about force,
it’s about what’s best for a child. Obviously, you think the state knows
better than you. I just don’t happen to agree.
Of course you can advise. I just dont think the state should give the parent veto power over what the pregant girl wants. Its her body, her decision.
Its not about the state knowing better than anyone. Its about the girl and her doctor having the power to make the decision without legal interference by a third party.

That is a ridiculous statement. You obviously don’t have a daughter. If you do, I shudder to think what kind of ideas you’re teaching her.

The state also contends that parents are legally responsible for a child until the age of 18. Why the cherrypicking over abortion. It’s a medical procedure, and, a voluntary one. This isn’t a case of parents denying a life saving treatment.
“Why the cherrypicking over abortion. It’s a medical procedure, and, a voluntary one. ”
Because the Supreme Court (whether you like it or not) has ruled that women have a constitutional right to an abortion. This is not just some mundane medical procedure. There is no constitutional right to a nose job.
Hey Adam,
You Think that if a child is before the age of reason that she should be able to go and get an abortion?! That’s why a child lives with his/her parents so
they can bring them up in the way that they should go, they don’t have the
reasoning to be able to make that decision on their own.
There are so many cases where these young woman have done as you suggest, and they are ruined for the rest of their lives over it.
For you to compare taking the life of an unborn child with a nose job just proves what a MORON you are.
Adam,
Also these are not woman they are children.
I dont think young girls should get abortions without parental consultation, I just dont think the government should REQUIRE it. Big difference. Nor do i think a parent should have the legal authority to force a girl who doesnt want to carry a pregnancy to term to do so. Thats what parental consent laws do, they take the choice away from the girl, and give it to her parents.
The comparison to the nose job was to point out the constitutional issue, if you dont understand that then YOU, John H, are the moron.
Adams,
Most minors would benefit greatly from the parents wise counsel. The young child considering abortion is usually very afraid, very nervous and very confused. The child needs the maturity, clear mind and wise counsel of their parents. The child needs to know the consequences of their actions, including deep and life-long mental scars (a fact played down by Planned Parenthood and abortion Doctor with only $$$ in mind) Most parents love dearly their kids. Most parents would have their child’s best interest in mind when advising their child .
The Bible was inspired by our Creator. The Bible does not give any one (a child that is 15 or a 38 years old female) the right to kill another human being. Abortion is a grave sin that is not pleasing to the Creator of life. On Judgement Day what you feel, what you believe or what you think today will be totally irrelevant. Only God’s law as clearly defined in the Bible will be applied. NYS law, PAS law, CAS law, etc. will not count. The Spanish, French and German constitutions will not matter whatsoever. What the US Supreme court decided will not matter in the least. We all must (and surely will) give an account to the Creator of life for our actions or lack of actions. There is no appeal or a case dismissal due to a human technicality in God’s perfect and just Court. Absolute Truth will rein supreme once again. As a country we have lost our moral compass (as defined by God) and this is the root cause of all the social ills and problems. No amount of money and man written laws can fix a corrupt and sinful heart problem. A am afraid that America is turning quickly into another Sodom and Gomorrah. We must turn to God before it is too late. The only true and lasting solution to healing this land that we so dearly love is through prayers and repentance. Only when we humble ourselves, as a nation, and turn to Jesus Christ (our Lord and Savior) then He will bless America.
My major problem with the parental consent law is that it is dangerous for a lot of young women–and I do believe that a 16 or 17 year old female is a woman–to approach their parents for permission. They could face physical violence, mental or emotional abuse. In short, they could be hurt if their parents found out they were pregnant.
Prior to Roe v. Wade, and even since then, thousands of young women have died from illegal, dangerous abortions. Women who don’t have access to contraception or legitimate sexual education will get pregnant. Some of them will try to end the pregnancy. Rather they do it safely, in a medical facility, then some hotel room with hanger.
We should all look at this realistically. We should all be fighting for greater access to contraception so that abortion is a choice that fewer women have to make. But it is their choice.
“Because the Supreme Court (whether you like it or not) has ruled that women have a constitutional right to an abortion. This is not just some mundane medical procedure. There is no constitutional right to a nose job.”
An adult has a constitutional right to have an abortion performed. It is a mundane medical procedure. It’s an outpatient operation with less side effects than having wisdom teeth removed. You do have a constitutional right to choose a nose job if you are an adult. You never answered if you have daughters of your own so we know what the answer is.
If only there was some way for a girl to take a pill the morning after unprotected sex that would prevent all this…OH but there is, and you people are against providing girls under 18 access to that as well!!
And there is no consittutional right to cosmetic surgery…that has got to be the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. Roe v Wade is the abortion case…what is the nose job case…i always forget that one.
Adam, you’re missing the point. This has nothing to do with Roe V Wade. The question is when is a person of legal age to make medical decisions.
“HOW MUCH CONTROL DO YOU NEED OVER YOUR CHILD’S LIFE? If she is able to bear children, (according to her creator she’s an adult), then she should be able to make her own decisions regarding her own body.”
And that logic suggests that she should also have a right to buy and use booze and cigarettes.
… Adam, Mike K., KT et al, your wrong! Nothing I or anybody else says will change your mind but you are still wrong.
Ted, I actually feel the same way about you all. Let’s try to find a middle ground here though. I think contraception is it. Greater access to contraception means fewer abortions.
This is the problem. Everybody’s wrong and everybody’s right. Extremists on both sides are dominating the conversation.
Mike Walsh, please explain the middle ground on abortion. One sides with life. One sides with death. This extreamist doesn’t understand.
“Mike Walsh, please explain the middle ground on abortion. One sides with life. One sides with death. This extreamist doesn’t understand.”
You’ve just framed the argument in the most divisive terms. It all boils down to science vs religion. Neither can prove anything at this point. Roe v Wade is not going to be repealed anytime soon, if ever. The best use of time and resources for pro-lifers would be to focus on ways to discourage abortion. That could be a lot of things such as contraception and adoption. When you label people as killers, you don’t expect them to engage in dialog, do you?
I never said “killer” and you did engage in dialog.
You implied “killers” and I mean dialog with others besides me
