I will make a wild guess and say that this will go no further than this. He should resign or at least withdraw from the race. He like to tell us we need adult supervision when he needs it, especially when he talks about killing a sitting president. I have a difficult time with his arrogant, condesending attitude.

Hevesi Apologizes for Using State Employee
Comptroller Alan Hevesi offered his first public apology Thursday for failing to reimburse the state for using one of his employees to chauffeur his wife since 2003.

“It was irresponsible of me,” the Queens Democrat said at a meeting of the New York State Association of Counties. “For the comptroller of the state of New York it was really inappropriate. … This was a very serious error and I’m paying the price for it.”

Hevesi, a former Assemblyman seeking a second four-year term as the state’s chief financial officer, acknowledged last week that he had not reimbursed the state for the cost of having his wife driven around by a state employee since 2003. Hevesi said this week he has repaid the state $82,688 for the worker’s service.

J. Christopher Callaghan, Hevesi’s Republican challenger, called on Hevesi to resign, saying he believed the comptroller intentionally deceived the public. He also said Hevesi’s use of a state employee to drive for his wife was a crime and asked the Albany County district attorney’s office to investigate.

“He’s shown he can’t be trusted,” said Callaghan, the former Saratoga County treasurer. “His actions give no evidence he ever intended to pay.”

The comptroller sent a letter to the state Ethics Commission for a review of his actions. If the commission finds that Hevesi violated the state Ethics Law, Hevesi could face a fine, suspension or removal from office. Such a decision would be made by Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.
