Albany out of touch with reality when it comes to governing the state. We have to reduce taxes, fees, restrictions, mandates etc, across the board if we are to save this state..

ALBANY — The excessive size of state government is hindering private business growth in New York, Republican gubernatorial candidate John Faso told a state Associated Press Association conference Thursday.

In describing the status of the upstate economy, Faso told of a conversation he had with a man at a Syracuse restaurant and bar.

Faso said the man told him, “‘You know what Syracuse is? It’s Utica 15 years ago.’”

Faso’s reaction? “I thought that was really a very sad and alarming commentary on the direction of that Central New York city.”

Faso called for a reduction in state income taxes — among other things — to help cities such as Syracuse before they fell further.

Utica Mayor Tim Julian said the city had struggled 15 years ago, but was on the rebound today.

He said the policies of Albany’s leaders, such as Sen. Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, had contributed to the difficult climate.

“Albany fails to realize that,” Julian said. “Because those people in Albany already are getting their piece of the action.”
