At least this is a start, my question is why has it taken so long to even get to this point? There are two bigger issue here. Holt’s involvement in “All Pro Hoops”.. Holt funnelled at least $25,000 in member money to his son’s one-day basketball camp through Group Ministries.
At the December 8th legislature meeting a $3 million appropriation for CBC (Community Based Corrections).. Holt was the chairman and Swanick submitted the amendment at the last minute in the meeting. Questions arose after a $500 donation to Holts campaign came from CBC, a Louisana based company.
WBEN 930 : Legislator’s Tax Evasion Case To Grand Jury?
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The Erie County’s district attorney’s office has concluded it’s probe into possible tax evasion by Erie County legisltor George Holt (D-Buffalo) , and criminal charges could be forthcoming from an eventual Grand Jury.
District Attorney Frank Clark tells WBEN that his office is negotiating with Holt over the amounts of sales tax that may have been witheld from New York State improperly.
“I expect that there wil be disagreements and there has been. And what we are allgeing in terms of evasion, they are saying is not evasion,” Clark says.
Clark’s probe into Holt’s finances at Mattie’s Restaurant on Fillmore Ave. began in the spring, at the request of the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance. Holt is collecting $20,000 in state sales taxes from customers, but not passing those dollars, as required, to the state.
Clark says there is enough evidence to take the charges to a Grand Jury for possible indictment, but he also says a plea deal is possible.
Talks between Clark, Holt, and his accountants are ongoing. Holt’s Attorney Mark Mahoney did not return calls seeking comment.
