Key questions in the primary
A few questions to ponder while results from Tuesday’s primary elections roll in:
Can Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi claim a moral victory if the polls hold and Attorney General Eliot Spitzer wins the Democratic primary for governor?
Suozzi has spread an anti-Albany mantra that seems tailor-made for Western New York. After Rochester’s Center for Government Research released a recent poll showing the statewide disgust for state government significantly magnified in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, it would seem that Suozzi’s idea to tear down and then rebuild state government would resonate here more than anywhere.
If he’s right and somehow pulls off an upset, he can claim the mandate to do just about anything he pleases. And if his numbers are even healthy, he can justify his campaign by saying he sent a message.
If he’s wrong, Suozzi will slink back to Long Island to wait another day.

McCarthy is dead right here.. This is WNY’s chance to send the loudest message to Albany that we could possibly send. If anyone missed the many opportunities to see, listen, question and or see the passion that Suozzi has about reforming and restructuring New York, you missed the chance but you don’t have to miss the vote. A vote for Suozzi is a vote and a message that we are tired, broke and cannot put up with it any longer…

Can current Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan triumph in Marc Coppola’s re-election effort to the State Senate?
The chairman has lots riding on the former Delaware Council member, who won a special election for the seat last February. But Coppola must face a popular Council member in Antoine Thompson and also overcome the confusion of running against cousin Al Coppola, who also once held the seat.
Lenihan has worked hard for Coppola, while Mayor Byron Brown and his Grassroots organization is pulling for Thompson. It’s made for uncomfortable moments at Democratic gatherings but will result in major bragging rights at either Democratic or Grassroots headquarters.
What’s with North Council Member Joe Golombek’s support for Al Coppola?
One of two things: he’s deeply committed to all Al Coppola stands for, or he’s helping his friends in the Brown camp split the vote against Thompson.
Now this is my district so I take what’s going on here effects me personally and I am disgusted with the power plays that are being fought right here. Power and Control and it’s Hoyt and Lenihan dumping tons of cash into Marcs campaign.
As far as Thompson goes and Brown? Brown did nothing for this district, nothing. Thompson is for things I detest as is Marc. I am disgusted that the people are the last things on their minds. This district has 100,000 more Dems than Repubs and just look at it. Look at the vacant homes, buildings, drug houses, some streets look like bombed out WWII.. Yet in the middle of a bombed out street you’ll find a few houses that look good and are cared for.
Some of the elderly still living in those homes care for them because they cannot sell them, the values have fallen, yet the taxes continue to rise. Water rates higher than the desert southwest and electric some of the highest rates in the country. So why would I support either one of them.
Al Coppola has been worked over from the Democrats, they have fought him, thrown him out because he was actually working for the people. I disagree with AL on issues, but I see in him the fight, the fight for the people, not the party, not for power and control. He took on the power authority and has been punished by the very people that say they are for the working families.. That is the biggest line of crap I hear.. Working families is code for unions. What am I? Dirt.?
I hope all Democrats see through all this and vote their conscience. Vote for Suozzi and Al Coppola.. I have met with, questioned and talked to both of them.
As far as Joe’s opinion? I think he is committed to what Al Coppola stands for, but ask Joe, he’ll tell you. I happen to like Joe alot too, another independent guy and Hoyt and Lenihan have their sites set on taking him out too.
I think it’s time to take out Hoyt and Lenihan, they are the ones doing the damage here.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIf Al Coppola was serious about running for senator and not just being a spoiler for his cousin, perhaps he should be running a real campaign. According to state election records available to anyone on the internet, Al Coppola has spent less than $200 on his campaign in 2006. Looks to me like he is on the ballot for name confusion only, put on by the Thompson campaign. Shameful. What even more shameful is that you are actually endorsing the guy.

Well why don’t you donate to his campaign… Oh, that’s right you people hate him cause he is working against all of you….
That’s why I am endorsing him.
You apparently have no idea how difficult it is to raise money without selling your soul to the special interest and union bosses.
When someone is out to change things people with money and power ignore them. You really need to get off of this kick that Thompson is behind Al’s running. Al has been running for 6 years, if Antionne Thompson was really behind it don’t ya think he would have more money?
Your twisted thinking really exposes who you are, just a hack that like to distort the facts to suit your agenda.
I need some money, want to donate to my campaign?
perhaps he hasent raised any money because he isnt really trying to get elected.
“you people hate him cause he is working against all of you”
He’s not working at all!
He raised sufficient funds in all of his other 6 elections (ones where his cousin wasnt running against him), why cant he call on his previous donars? because he’s not serious about getting elected. You dont have to be when your sole purpose is to confuse people by having two Coppola’s on the ballot.
I’m sure you would be mad if Antoine Thompson got on the ballot against you and Sam, and did nothing but appear on the ballot to confuse people who plan on voting for ‘that thompson guy’
If you were at the debate tonight (the one that Marc blew off) you would have seen the passion that Al has. He isn’t in this to spoil anything, he wants to get elected.
Marc must be taking lessons from Spitzer, he blows off questions from the people, is he mightier than tho? No, he’s a puppet that hasn’t a clue.
