I wonder how he expects the Catholic, Baptist and Christian voters of the 60th senate district will respond to this….?? Marriage belongs in the Church, it is sanctioned by the Church, not by government. Government needs to stay out of Church business. Have a civil union and lave marriage alone.

Marc Coppola was elected to complete the unexpired Senate term of Byron Brown who had resigned upon taking office as Mayor of Buffalo. Coppola is the only candidate in this race who has gone on record as stating that he would vote for legislation that would extend marriage to same-sex couples in New York State.
Coppola has also supported glbt issues and people as a member of the Buffalo Common Council. Senator Coppola, on his first day in the New York State Senate rose and spoke on the Senate floor in support of the inclusion of glbt people in anti-school bullying legislation.

Sure, as long as they leave Marriage and the Church out of it.
Considering his same sex marriage stance, its rediculous Coppola didn’t receive the WNY Stonewall Dems nomination.
And I think Coppola’s knowledge of legislative politics blows Antoine out of the water.
When the government bestows certain rights on people by way of marriage, you cant discriminate. what does the church have to do with tax benefits, IRA survivor rights and the whole host of other rights bestowed on married couples? If people were real christians, they would practice tolerance.
“I wonder how he expects the Catholic, Baptist and Christian voters of the 60th senate district will respond to this….??”
- (first of all Catholics and Baptists ARE Christians)
- as followers of CHRIST, could someone please quote me the part in the NEW Testament where Jesus condems homosexuals?
If people were real christians, they would practice tolerance.
Real Chrisrians? I’m agfraid you have no idea what a “Real Christian” is Adam. A Christian is tolerant, as Jesus said”Love the sinner, hate the sin. Homosexuality is a sin an an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.
I noticed you put emphasis on NEW Testament, as I said above stays the same. Remember what Jesus said to Mary the prostitute? He saved her from a sure death by stoning, he stopped the hypocrites by saying, “he who is without sin cast the first stone”, Jesus then told Mary to go and sin no more.
That is what a tolerant Christian says and does, if they choose to sin again, they have condemmed themselves. I don’t condem anyone, they do it to themselves.
Government bestowed the benefits to the married, let the government change their laws and policies, don’t force Churches to condone something they surely consider a sin.
Regarding this, “Government bestowed the benefits to the married, let the government change their laws and policies, don’t force Churches to condone something they surely consider a sin.”
First of all, Churches can deny a marriage to whomever they want, straight or gay. The thing is, that straight couple can then find another church or a judge to legally marry them. The gay couple is out of luck on any front, including a non-religious ceremony.
Will you promise, if elected Rus, to deny your wife the healthcare benefits she is legally entitled to by law? All of those privledges are allowed to your and your family because you are married. And funded by taxpayer dollars.
I still see no condemnation by Jesus of homosexuality… That quite a reading into the quote, go and sin no more. Where does it say that if the person sins again, they are condemed? Where does Jesus say that?!?!
“Government bestowed the benefits to the married, let the government change their laws and policies, don’t force Churches to condone something they surely consider a sin.”
EXACTLY!!!! Let the government change the laws and allow gay marriage. If Christian churches dont want to allow homosexuals to get married under their roof, they dont have to, just like the Catholic church doesnt have to marry individuals who arent catholic. The law forces the church to do nothing, it simply allows gay couples the same rights as hetro couples.
KT… Can they? If it becomes Law how can they?
Do you see how utterly ridiclous you two sound?
It’s rather enjoyable watching you make asses out of yourselves.
Like I said and it stands, end of subject.
You want civil unions have them, change the laws to reflect that so your people can get the benefits. Better still, put it up for a Vote, let the people decide.
That is the only fair and equitable way of doing it.
Adam says: - “as followers of CHRIST, could someone please quote me the part in the NEW Testament where Jesus condems homosexuals?”
Jesus doesn’t condemn homosexuals, or any other sinners for that matter.
He welcomes them to be saved by His grace. Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament, sometimes speaks by permission, but mostly, by the power of the Holy Spirit. He speaks by the Spirit when he explains the biblical view of homosexuality, in Romans 1: 24-28. Verses 22-32 are as follows:
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
