Sep 01, 2006 - State Senator Dale Volker is facing allegations, from his primary election opponent Leonard Roberto. Roberto claims Volker tried to intimidate one of his fellow Republicans to prevent Roberto from getting an endorsement. Amherst Town Supervisor Satish Mohan is part of the controversy. 7 News has learned that Mohan did radio ads supporting Roberto.

Roberto says Mohan was pressured to pull those ads by Volker and Republican “party bosses”, otherwise he would risk losing state and federal funding for Amherst. Mohan says he did talk to friends in the party but would not say who. Right now Mohan is saying he was not directly threatened, but is concerned about Amherst. “The future of my Town is my first consideration in my mind, however I don’t want to sway my principals of elections, but I have to take care of my Town. I cannot antagonize lots of people around me.” said Mohan.

Volker says he’s never threatened any fellow lawmakers or election opponents, and that Roberto should stop the nonsense.

The radio ads, for now, are not being pulled. Roberto also believes Congressman Tom Reynolds was also involved in pressuring Mohan. Reynolds could not be reached for comment.

Roberto will be on the radio with Sandy Beach Tuesday at 4PM.
