ALBANY, N.Y. — Democrat Tom Suozzi and Republican John Faso found common ground Monday night as they teamed up to tell New Yorkers why front-runner Eliot Spitzer shouldn’t be governor.
“The reason I’m losing (in the polls) is the same reason I’m running,” Suozzi said. He said special interests, unions and political bosses are all supporting Spitzer.
With the backing and financing, “He can do his TV commercials over and over that never tell us specifics,” said Suozzi, the Nassau County executive. He then started singing the chorus of Judy Collins’ “This Little Light of Mine” featured in a Spitzer ad on education.
“I love it,” Suozzi said of the commercial. “But it’s not policy.”
Spitzer, the two-term attorney general far ahead in the polls and in fundraising, declined Monday’s televised forum at the University of Buffalo Amherst that was carried on the Internet and other debates. He debated Suozzi in July and is scheduled to debate Faso in September.
On Monday, Faso said Spitzer didn’t have the “nerve” to show up because he’s part of the problem of special interests controlling Albany. Faso called it part of Spitzer’s “arrogance.”
“Polls don’t decide elections, people decide elections,” said Faso, a lawyer and former Assembly minority leader. “Mr. Spitzer is not here … he didn’t think enough to come here. Well, the fact of the matter is New York has to change … we have to change this policy of tax, borrow and spend.”
Last nights debate between Suozzi and Faso was just more proof that one of these two should be the next governor. Spitzer with his high and mighty attitude, with the backing of every special interest group and union out there needs to be defeated in the primary. Can anyone honestly think that he will reform anything?
Now Cuomo running for Attorney General says he will start looking into fraud with Medicaid, something Spitzer has not done? With an estimated 40% fraud within the system why has Spitzer chosen to ignore this. 47 Billion is spent on this huge bloated program and Spitzer sits on his hands but goes after Wall St with a vengence..
Suozzi and Faso had the courage to stand in front of a crowd and live television cameras to answer questions and give detail to their plans for NY State, something missing from the Spitzer commercials.

I watch Spitzer’s campaign adds……could almost VOMIT. He is making more promises than Hillary did, and is “pretending” he is an outsider to Albany. What a PATHETIC JOKE. If the citizens of New York want real meaningful change, the democrats should vote for Tom Suozzi for governor. HE would give real meaning to the word “CHANGE”. Sad fact is though, the guy doesn’t stand a chance. All the “special interests” (BIG LABOR UNIONS, CSEA, TEACHERS UNIONS, and the like) make certain their members vote and make certain their people (like Elliott Spitzer) get nominated and then elected. That is how the system works in New York State and that is why it will only get worse for TAXPAYERS in this state, NEVER BETTER. And for those who don’t pay taxes or live off the trough of those of us who do……life is good and change is bad so…..things will NEVER change!!
Suozzi’s phenomenal. He stands a chance as long as people don’t vote like they’re betting on a horse race.
