WNED: Control Board Questions County Budget Plan (2006-08-24)
BUFFALO (2006-08-24) Members of the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority say they need a little more time to study County Executive Giambra’s revised 4 year financial plan.
During a meeting Wednesday, control board members picked apart the complicated plan that would give the county more cash by using state property tax aid to end sales tax revenue sharing with local school districts.
Board Chairman Anthony Baynes says while the plan would provide more cash for the county, it doesn’t cut spending.
“They still haven’t addressed that re-engineering question…it’s all about increasing taxes,” Baynes said.
Baynes also urged members of the Erie County Legislature to quickly review the Giambra proposal and decide whether members support it. The legislature is currently on summer recess and is not scheduled to meet again until Sept. 14.
Meanwhile, Legislator Barry Weinstein says getting Giambra’s sales tax proposal approved by the end of the year may be impossible.
“The sales tax agreement requires a one year notice period,” Weinstein said.
The changes in sales tax distribution would have to be approved by the county, the state, the control board and Erie County’s three cities.
They are absolutely correct, Giambra and the majority in the legislature refuse to even look at the restructuring of county government. The only ones putting forward anything that calls for cuts, reductions and restructuring government is the Republicans and Locklear & Konst. Of course their ideas are sent to committee whaer all good ideas go to die, never to see the light of day.
I am really getting fedup with the majority meeting with the Democrat Party heads, away from the legislature and then putting forth their agenda to be voted on knowing the results of the vote before it hits the floor. The Republicans and the two Dems get the agenda and have no idea what is in the bills and are expected to vote on them. It’s Albany politics here and Marinelli is the Sheldon Silver of Erie County, or is it Hoyt, or Lenihan?
Oh to be a fly…….

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWhere do you get your crazy theories?! Is it Sam, is it Lenihan, is it Marinelli…perhaps its comes from the man in the grassy knoll. From the way you describe the process, it sounds a lot like the Republican led House of Represenatives.
At least you didn’t deny it..
Was it the grassy knoll. or the man under the manhole cover, or the man with the umbrella, or did the driver do it? Hmmm…. so many possibilities.
Have you ever attended a leg meeting? Have you ever spent days at the county and watch what goes on?I have and have witnessed the exactly what the Democrats do to the Republicans.
I watched as Swanick slammed the door in Barry Weinstiens face and told him to get the F**k out. They were meeting behind closed doors doin exactly what I said they do.

… and why is it that the Democrats are not legislating in good faith? Adam if the shoe where on the other foot you would be screaming bloody murder about the Republicans. What makes you so afraid of the mention of God and the Christian faith?
Hey! I’m a Right-Wing bible thumping nut — I’m a Jesus Freak too. You got a problem with that?
Ted, it’s because they would have to admit there is a God and if that happens then they would have to pay attention to the Catholics, the Baptists, the Prostestants and the Christian right.
If they ever went to church and really listened to what a Pastor had to say or read the Bible they would be scared to death, and that would be a good thing.
Jesus said, feed a man a fish and he will eat for one day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.
If they actually taught people how to do things for themselves and not depend on them they would lose their voters.
Welfare to work was one of the best things to come out of the Clinton administration, even though he wouldn’t pass it until public pressure forced him to. It was a Republican Bill, to bad NY has not caught on, they have ignored everything that pertains to “personal responsibility” and have kept the minorities down rather than bringing them up.
But that’s a Conservative, Religous, Right wing whacko idea. We are the bigots and racists according to them.
