Thompson enters race with Hoyt-Silver theme
8/9/2006
Republican Rus Thompson formally announced his candidacy for the Assembly on Tuesday against incumbent Democrat Sam Hoyt during a news conference on Grant Street.
Thompson, who is endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties, pointed to the “tax revolt” of last year during the county fiscal crisis as the impetus for his candidacy, and accused Hoyt of following the orders of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan.
“My opponent, Sam Hoyt, votes with Sheldon Silver 97 percent of the time, because Sam Hoyt believes that Shelly Silver is his boss,” Thompson said.
Thompson said his campaign will focus on reducing taxes and ending waste and what he described as corruption.
Why is nothing being said or the question being asked about Hoyt not returning to Albany if re-elected? Is everyone afraid to upset the apple cart?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWhy is nothing being said? Because this notion came from you! why would the press write a story simply because some guy makes a baseless accusation. What evidence do you have to sugggest this? Crazy conspiracy theories dont get you very far… (See Cynthia McKinney)
We will have to wait and see won’t we Adam…
I know much more that I will say. The question needs to be asked when this type of accusation has been made. BTW, the Buffalo Rocket had it before I did.
Compare me to McKinney again and your comments will disappear. Clear?
The Buffalo Rocket? Now thats a reliable journalistic source. You’re gonna delete my comments? Using your ‘power’ to silence dissent. You already sound like a Republican elected official!
Adam, I think you’re confused. Liberalism is usually behind most censorship. You only need to take a longer view at the history of
Fascism and oppression under Socialism to realize that is in fact,
the case. The News Media, case in point. Conservatives generally
try to censor obscenity and pornography, and things that are harmful.
I tend to think they welcome reasonable debate. I enjoy substantive debate and dissent, but yours doesn’t appear to have any substance.
It seems to be argumentative without a cause. If you could offer something useful or productive, I’m certain it would help.
In addition, It seems clear that the Buffalo Rocket was not Rus
Thompson’s source. He simply indicated they had it before he did.
Examples of Republican’s silencing dissent/engaging in UNreasonable debate…
Colin Powel - forced to resign over disagreements in Middle East policy
The debate over the morning after pill - conservatives intentionally confusing the issue with RU-486
CIA reports showing Iraq had no WMD’s - silencing dissent
Scientific evidence showing that global warming is a real threat -silencing dissent.
Scientific evidence about the peak oil silencing dissent/real debate
Republican congress’ unwillingness to force US car manufacturers to build more fuel efficient cars - engaging in unreasonable debate
FOX news - no need to explain
shall i continue?
“The News Media, case in point. Conservatives generally

The F-word and naked people never killed or maimed anyone…Republican/neoconservative imperialistic wars over oil (disguised as the “war on terror” or the need to rid the world of WMD) have killed and maimed hundreds of thousands.
I think your notion of what is harmful is slightly skewed.
Apparently you haven’t seen the chorus of liberal senators and congressmen and women, seeing the same intel as everyone else, and determining that Saddam presented a clear and present danger, voted
for the US to take action. No WMD’s? What do you think Saddam used to annhilate the Kurds?
It is this administration’s policy to support Israel, and one lone voice, tho admirable (however misplaced) has no place there, and is most assuredly better suited in the world of civilian discourse.
Morning After Pills and RU-486 are one and the same — if they’re not, they
both kill a child after it’s already conceived. Add this to long list of ways in which the Liberal mind disrespects Life, and seeks to corrupt society at large.
This is the first I heard repubs are responsible for impeding the progress to manufacturing fuel efficient cars…
What’s Global Warming?
Again, you need to take a longer view of history. A study was done, hoping to find a common thread among violent criminals, esp. those who’d committed serial killings. Every single subject was found to have started with a dallying interest in pornography, that only grew to uncontrollable proportions. Also, violent language has a clear link to violent behavior.
The degradation of our language surely accomodates unhealthy lack of respect, which leads to petty crime, which leads to bigger crime… This is
Negative Cultural Influences, 101. So yes, F-words and naked people most assuredly have killed and maimed.
wow, i can even begin to point out all that is wrong with that last post. Ill start with the RU-486/morning after pill though.
The morning after pill is a CONTRACEPTIVE. It PREVENTS a pregnancy, thus negating the need for an abortion in the first place. It is nothing more than a high dosage of ‘the pill’ which has been legal for decades. If a woman is already pregnant, the morning after pill does NOTHING!
RU-486 is a pill that causes a medical abortion POST CONCEPTION.
If you cant understand that distinction, there is no sense wasting anymore time on you.
“The idea of emergency contraception—or a morning-after pill—is based on a theory. Under this theory, if a woman has sexual intercourse and fears she may be pregnant, she can take large doses of birth control pills. If in fact the woman is pregnant when she takes these birth control pills, the high dosage could act to kill her preborn child—a living human being. The only “emergency” in this case is the woman’s fear of being pregnant.”
It doesn’t prevent a pregnancy, it ends one, hence the name Morning After.
After sex. After pregnancy. Get it?
No ‘Morning After’ the name refers to when you take the pill…the morning after sex, pregnancy occurs long after the ‘morning after’ usually 3-5 days later.
Rus & Oracle, you’re wrong about the morning after pill.
Conception can take place days after intercourse although it’s more likely the sperm will reach the egg in a short amount of time. What emergency contraception does is prevent conception from occuring. This is what the birth control pill does, this is what condoms do by creating a barrier, this is what spermicide does. The Morning After pill would not end a pregnancy if conception had already taken place; it is NOT an abortive agent.
Emergency contraception and RU486 are different drugs, period. There has been a concerted effort to confuse the two so I can understand your mix up.
