Legislature called on to provide funding for stem cell research after Bush veto - The Business Review (Albany):
A group representing colleges and medical institutions on Monday called on New York state leaders to appropriate funding for embryonic stem cell research.

The group, New Yorkers for the Advancement of Medical Research (NYAMR), said now that President Bush has vetoed legislation that would have provided funding on the federal level, it is incumbent on New York to act for themselves.

The state Legislature in Albany was unable to reach agreement before it ended its regular 2006 session in June on a stem cell research bill. The issue failed because of the state Assembly’s insistence that embryonic stem cell research be allowed in New York, while Republicans in the state Senate and Gov. George Pataki expressed misgivings.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said New York risks losing its preeminent role in biomedical research because of a shortage of funding for stem cell research and the controversy over whether embryonic stem cells should be included.

State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, the Democrat who is favored to win the governor’s office this fall, is on record saying he favors embryonic stem cell research.

NO, NO, NO!
These people have chosen to completley ignore the benefits and the successes of adult stem cell research. After years of research all they have been able to succed in finding is failure. But after years with adult stem cells the successes are numerous.

If embryonic is the way to go then why isn’t there people waiting in line to fund it. It is not for the government to fund this failed research.
