State Democratic Chairman Finds That His Sally Against Faso’s Stand Backfires

ALBANY, June 7 — What started out as a partisan attack on John Faso, the Republican candidate for governor, quickly backfired on Democrats on Wednesday after their chairman suggested that tax cuts might not be a priority for Democrats this year.

Herman D. Farrell Jr., the state chairman, called a news conference to make what he called a preview of attacks on the legislative record of Mr. Faso, a former state assemblyman. But when Mr. Farrell was asked if cutting taxes was one of the top three priorities for Democrats, he said the party would focus on creating new jobs in the state instead.

Later in the day, Mr. Farrell issued a clarification and said he misspoke.

In his original remarks to reporters on Wednesday morning, Mr. Farrell said, “Jobs is the most important thing,” adding, “If you create jobs, then you get the income. Once you get the income, then you can afford to look at tax cuts.”

No, I think what he said is actually what he means. How can you cut taxes when you are trying to creat more goivernment jobs. It is not the job of the government to create jobs.

What needs to be done is reduce taxes across the board, eliminate unfunded mandates and let the local governments control their own employees with out state requirements that are just there to ensure the union jobs. Eliminate the Taylor Law, Tribourough Amendment that forces us to continue on with the old contract when a new one has not been agreed upon. Lower the costs of government, utilities, taxes of fuel, tolls, eliminate the authorities that answer to no one and are raising our state debt at such a rate our grandchildren will be paying for.

The stranglehold the state government has on local governments is killing western and upstate New York. The only part of the state that gets any representation is NYCity.

In order to do any part of the above is to get rid of the leadership that controls us. Vote against your incumbent.
